NEW EMPIRE CITY STAKE Autumn Championship of 5000 5000Added Added Announced for Next Fall Fallat at the Yonkers Eace Course NEW YORK N T January 6 During the October racing season at tho Yonkers track of tho Empire City Racing Association there will be a mile race for all ages to which 5000 will be added This will be known as the Autumn Championship Stakes and under the conditions geldings are not eligible eligibleIt It is interesting that such a race should be added to the New York entertainment and coming as late in the year as it doss it ought to prove a real championship as far as is possible over the mile distance It is at weight for age as all championships should be and of course the mile is the only fair distance that could be chosen to offer the twoyearolds a chance to race against the older horses horsesLast Last year there was a suggestion of such a race to be framed to bring the best three yearolds together and now that it has be ¬ come a regular part of the program James Butler is to be congratulated on its inau ¬ guration There are too few chances for the twoyearolds over the mile distance in New York during the fall and this race is one more chance for them It is greatly to be desired that other races of a mile ex ¬ clusively for the twoyearolds be arranged for the fall meetings meetingsThis This Autumn Championship Stake will close for entries February 1 when the vari ¬ ous other stakes that are to be decided at the summer meeting at Yonkers are to be closed closedThe The stake list for the summer meeting is exactly the same as that which was offered last year and it consists of sixteen fixtures Seven of them are at varying distances for threeyearolds and over three are exclu ¬ sively for threeyearolds and the remaining six are for twoyearolds twoyearoldsThe The principal offerings for the older horses are the Empire City Yonkers and Mount Vernon handicaps The first named is of 5000 added and the other two are of 1000 added addedFor For the threeyearolds the Empire City Derby at a mile and a quarter has 5000 added the Knickerbocker Handicap at a mile and a sixteenth is of 3000 and the other is the Tarrytown a mile selling race of 3000 guaranteed guaranteedThe The twoyearolds will have plenty of op ¬ portunity and while each of these juvenile stakes is of guaranteed value the guarantee is liberal The best is the East View with 10000 guaranteed The Whirl has 7500 and both the Demoiselle for fillies and the Wakefield are of 5000 5000All All of these close with Victor E Schaum burg at 2030 Broadway February 1 and it is a list that is sure to bring a hearty re ¬ sponse from the horsemen But it is the Autumn Championship Stakes that is of greatest interest It brings New York a new stake of importance and it would be well i the owners see to it at this time that their prospective champions in each age division are made eligible
