GENIAL SUN RETURNS New Orleans Folks Cheer Up and Take to the Races Marvin May Rewards His Backers Olynthus Snatches a Race Racefrom from Seeming Defeat NEW ORLEANS La January 25 Under improved weather came a big addition to the attendance and the Fair Grounds this afternoon returned to a state of normalcy The track beginning slow constantly bet ¬ tered as the afternoon progressed under the constant manipulations of the track forces and their implements It bordered on fast near the close The racing was inter ¬ esting and several close finishes contributed extensively to the enjoyment of the big throng Favorites and second choices again had their innings during the afternoon and the betting favored the public materially materiallyThe The best race carded was the threequar ¬ ters handicap in which Marvin May again figured in a winning performance On this occasion lie was weighted with 120 pounds but scored easily from Barracuda with the uncertain My Reverie in third place Pool took Marvin May back to allow Wolfs Cry to make a fast early pace but he took up the running where Wolfs Cry left off and though forced to be shaken up slightly in the last sixteenth held Barracuda safe My Reverie was not feeling so good this aft ¬ ernoon judging by her failure to keep pace witli the others for the first half mile but she roused up somewhat in the stretch and came from last place to land third money moneySUPPOltTEUS SUPPOltTEUS OX AXXIOUS SEAT SEATW W Daniels Olynthus which has been threatening on several occasions but fallen short of landing a purse here finally made good when he won the fifth race His vic ¬ tory was attended with considerable anxiety on the part of his supporters for he seemed beaten when an eighth from the finish Plucky and Colando the leaders tired badly however right at the end and it enabled Olynthus to win going away Plucky under sharp riding beat Colondo home for second place by a nose The mile in 1 40 showed a creditable performance from a time stand ¬ point pointNuyaka Nuyaka with Corcoran in the saddle had a large local following and opened the day auspiciously when he led for the entire race to beat Rupee favorite and frequent disap ¬ pointment Fourteen ordinary ones contested here hereHillsdalc Hillsdalc and Royal Dick divided attention in the second The former won easily but the latter ran a bad race and was far back at the finish He was subsequently claimed for 51500 by W M Cain Begum might have been the winner of the race but soon after the start Corcoran got her involved in trou ¬ ble forcing him to take her up sharply sharplyKirklevington Kirklevington which in a former race won and was claimed by his present owner won back the purchase price for him when he was an easy winner of the third race the outsider Mountain Rose II landing in second place with War Pennant third thirdSuperbum Superbum an outstanding favorite made good in the sixth race in which some three yearolds contended She scored easily from Beach Beauty with Al Stebler third thirdVETEUAX VETEUAX ETTAHE SUCCESSFUL SUCCESSFULThe The consistent veteran Ettahe with Pool as his pilot won in the seventh race from the extreme outsider Jack Fairman Gen Cadorna the favorite finishing third The Wit was given considerable consideration but he was a bad disappointment from the start startSecretary Secretary J B Campbell of the Jefferson Park track stated this aftrenoon that the closing date for Louisiana Derby entries would be March 1 The 10000 race will have its decision on the closing day March 17 17The The stewards issued a ruling during the afternoon revoking the badge privilege of George Chancellor and also denying him the privilege to act as agent for J McPherson General perniciousness was given as the reason for depriving him of the privileges privilegesAlex Alex II has been transferred to William Durnan by J R Skinker SkinkerW W W Shields departed today for New York where he will go to Binghamton to look over some yearlings owned by W S Kilmer which Shields will add to the list he already has under his care to be raced for the account of Mr Kilmer KilmerGeorge George Phillips will ship a car of miscel ¬ laneously owned as well as his own horses to Tijuana at the close of the racing at the Fair Grounds
