LONG SHOTS PREDOMINATE Public Finds It Difficult Task to Select Havana Winners Sirocco Again Disappoints His Admirers Frank Shannon Tulls Up Lame After AfterGame Game but Unsuccessful Effort HAVANA Cuba March 14 It was an un ¬ pretentious program offered the patrons of Oriental Park today the six races being un ¬ der claiming conditions and the fields com ¬ prising the cheaper grade The public found the task of selecting the winners a difficult one and long shots predominated The weather was summerlike and the track at its best while the attendance and volume of speculation was up to the midweek standard standardTho Tho fourth race at a mile and fifty yards resulted in Golden Red and Misericorde both at 10 to 1 in the betting finishing first and second after a wellcontested struggle Gol ¬ den Red showed the way throughout and held on gamely though hard ridden at the end Misericorde might have won had he not started so slowly being forced to close a big gap At the end he was gaining on the winner while Berrctta was close by fighting hard to overtake the leaders leadersThe The field for the opening dash was made up of maiden threeyearolds with Courtier and Mammon equal choices The first men ¬ tioned was returned winrer easily drawing away in the last quarter to finish three lengths in advance of Midday which had no trouble passing Mammon when the latter tired after the early pace paceThe The former good racer Sirocco apparently is tired of the race track At least he re ¬ fuses to do his best and has been a big dis ¬ appointment on several occasions recently Today he again failed his host of admirers vho made him an oddson favorite in the second race raceMISS MISS CALT1IA ALL THE AVAY AVAYIt It was Miss Caltha that showed the way in this contest but Sirocco was not far away and when he took the lead his backers set ¬ tled back into their seats confident that the old rogue was running kindly today Their optimism was rudely shattered a mo ¬ ment later when Sirocco quit abruptly and dropped back beaten beatenAfter After his elimination Miss Caltha increased her lead and won by three lengths Cavalier was second and Port Light third the latter closing a big gap to get the short end of the purse pursePrank Prank Shannon was another favorite to fall by the wayside He was heavily supported to win the third race but second to Edith K was the best he could reward his followers The Ormondale marc ran a good race She was reserved while Mrs Grundy was setting the early pace and when the latter tired upon reaching the stretch moved to the front and easily held Frank Shannon safe when the favorite attempted to pass her It was dis ¬ covered after the race that Frank Shannon injured his Jeg and he pulled up lame lameDr Dr Shafer scored in runaway style in the fifth and was never seriously menaced at any stage of the race Proceeds backed into favoritism at post time was second but never threatened the winner
