Gossip From Churchill Downs The only horses that Kirby will race in his own colors will be Red Arrow and Warrior. Louis and Fred Fenchler came all the way from El Paso, Texas, to be on hand in time for the Derby. T. C. Bradley, mayor of Lexington and manager of the Lexington track, headed a big delegation of Lexington ians. William Bartholomew lias been appointed authorized agent for S. N. Hoiman and will make the riding engagements for jockey R. Doyle. T. J. Pendergast, owner of Bo McMillan, prominent Western Derby candidate, arrived from his home in Kansas City and will stop over to witness the Derby. The horses owned by W. E. Applegatc were withdrawn from their respective races today on account of the sudden death of Mrs. W. E. Applegate yesterday. Ex-jockey George Molesworth is now a full-fledged owner and trainer. He has in training at the Downs the four-year-old Modna and the three-year-olds Lubeck and Hazel. E. J. OConnell, track superintendent at Huntington, was among-todays arrivals. He formerly raced a good stable of horses, including Carrie Orme, Panhachapie, Emerald Gem and Requiem. W. Covington is training the seven-year-old Ginger and the four-year-old Granite Ware for Col. W. E. Applegate. He also has in charge for John E. Madden the two-year-olds Phillis Louise and Lady Barrows, both by Sir Martin. The Eastern owned Kentucky Derby starters, many taking part in the Preakness Stakes during the afternoon," will be sent here by special train, according to advices from Baltimore this mcrning. The train will consist of a half-dozen cars. The Derby starters will be accompanied by many stable companions that are intended for racing during the meeting. R. L. Itogers arrived Saturday morning with the horses Tody, The Wit and Tula lip. Jap Muma. well-known New York newspaper correspondent, was among Saturdays visitors. The stewards were busy during the morning passing on the applications of trainers and jockeys for licenses. The members of the State Racing Commission who viewed Saturdays races were Polk I-affoon, E. A. Pollard, W. R. Hunter and J. N. Camden. With the Harry Payne Whitney consignment in charge of James Rowe that wiil reach here Monday will come jockeys Col-tiletti and McAtee. Harvey Woodruff of the Chicago Tribune was among the early visitors and will remain until after the Derby. He was accompanied by J. E. Flaniga.n, a Chicago business man. Charles Ellison, for the first time in years, will not be in attendance at the Churchill Downs meeting. He is in bad health and went to his home near Fox Luke. Wis., for a long stay. The horses that Al Kirby is handling for Jefferson Livingston include Firebrand, Buster. Newmarket, Martha Fallon, Sympathy, Tempting, Donegal and the following two-year-olds: Baldine, Dunlo. Quevero, Milla. Vera, Vennie, Phoebe, Estelle and Leroy. The horses that John F. Schorr brought here and will race in the colors of Mrs. E. R. McLean are Lough Storm. Noel, Comixa and the two-year-olds Sligo and Floating In. May Blossom, a four-year-old, and Everglade, a two-year-old colt by Everest- May Hempstead, owned by Cornelius Fellowes, are also in the Schorr barn. Trial gallops Saturday morning were over a muddy track and they were of necessity restricted. Following were the best of the Derby gallops: One mile and an eighth. Prince K., 2 :03 ; Boys Believe Me. 2 :07 : Bright Tomorrow, 2:09. Prince K. was under restraint all the way. Bo McMillan was galloped three-eighths in 38%.
