. . HAWTHORNE MEETING PLANS Contract Let for Rebuilding Grandstand — New Officers Elected — More Stables. Enthusiasm marked the first meeting of the Illinois Jockey Club held yesterday afternoon. New officials were elected and final plans made for the spring meeting, which opens June 30 for 25 days, ending July 28. A contract was signed with Herbert M. Zemon and Company of Chicago to rebuild the grandstand at Hawthorne, which was recently damaged by a high windstorm. The contract calls for completion of the work within three weeks at a cost of 0,000. One hundred carpenters and laborers began work Saturday morning, removing the wreckage from the field caused by the roof of the grandstand being totally blown off. A force of sixty-five men under the able guidance of Johnson Southard have been at work on the grounds and track for the last month and it is believed that old Hawthorne will be faster this year than ever in its history. Three new stables have been completed, making room for 500 additional horses, thus giving the plant a total stable capacity of 1.100 stalls. Four hundred of these have been already reserved, according to general manager Thomas BS. Bourke, and the list includes some of the best horses in Kentucky. The new officers of the association elected yesterday ars as follows : Anton J. Cermak. president ; Thomas E. Bourke, re-elected secretary and general manager; G. J. Stein-metz, acting treasurer ; C. W. Hay, presiding steward ; Judge Bernard J. Barasa, chairman of the board of directors. The clubs mera-ership committee is as follows: Robert M. Sweitzer, W. J.
