EPINARD RACE PLANS Col. Matt Winn Agrees to Stage Last of Three Races at Latonia. First to Be Held at Belmont Park, Second at Aqueduct Preliminary Arrangements Made. NEW YORK, N. Y., Jan. 10. Colonel Matt J. Winn, general manager of the Kentucky Jockey Club, met Major August Belmont, yesterday to discuss the proposed series of races in which Pierre Wertheimers Epinard is to take part in this country and at the close of the conference he had agreed to do his part in the promotion of the events. It was tentatively arranged that the last of the three proposed- races shall he run at Latonia under the auspices of the Kentucky Jockey Club. This race will be at one mile and a quarter and, like the two preceding events, will be a sweepstake for four-year-olds. The entry and starting fees will probably be made high enough to keep out any inferior horses that might clutter up the fields in these races. The series will start in September at Belmont Park with a three-quarters race under similar conditions. According to present plans the second race of the series will be run at Aqueduct over the mile distance. The.second race has not as yet been definitely agreed upon, however, as president James Shelvin of the Queens County Jockey Club desires to consult with his associates before committing himself to the plan. As has been previously announced, Mr. AVettheimor -plans to send Ins colt-, from France early in July. He will be accompanied by trainer Eugene Leigh and jockey Everett Haynes and will be sent at once to Saratoga, where the greater part of his training for the races in the fall will be done. Colonel Winns acceptance of the plan practically completes the preliminary arrangements for the visit of the French horse. It is now considered practically certain that Epinards visit will be carried through as planned.
