DIXIE NOMINATIONS 5 Big Entry List for Pimlicos 5,000 Spring Handicap. 4 1 Best Horses of Mature Age in the Country Included Among the 118 Named. t t a BALTIMORE, Mil.. Jan. 14. A total of 1 118 horses are included in the list of nomi- r nations for the Dixie Handicap of 5,000 c added, for three-year-olds and over, at a t mile and three-sixteenths, which was made public by the Maryland Jockey Club. Entries for this big spring stake, which closed Janu- c ary 2, include the best horses of mature age i in the country, and a number of leading 3 candidates for the Preakness and the Ken- c tucky Derby are also in the list. 3 Although the conditions arc different, the J Dixie is a revival of a famous old stake 1 which played an important part in the early history of the Maryland Jockey Club. The new handicap is attracting far greater at- 1 tention than other races of its class because it marks a return to the once popular prac- tice of announcing weights before the open- ing of the new racing season. Weights for the Dixie will be announced February 1 and winners after the publication of weights will j assume penalties. 1 Following are the conditions and entries for the Dixie : 1 DIXIE HANDICAP For three-year-olds and over.
