9 FEAR FOR MAJ. MLAUGELIN Chicago sportsmen are alarmed for the safety of Major Frederic McLaughlin and his bride, formerly Irene Castle, who arrived in Tokyo Monday, just before the disastrous earthquake occurred. Major McLaughlin was one of the group of Chicagoans who organized the Chicago "Washington Park Club for the purpose of reviving racing in the State of Illinois, and went so far as to have a pari-mutuel bill introduced in the state legislature, which, however, failed to get further than a committee hearing.
