I i : CUBAN PURSE DISTRIBUTION I 0 Over 00,000 to Winning Owners in First Half of Meeting. Florida Stable and W. R. Coe the Largest t Winners Pickens and Callahan Leading the Jockeys. SPECIAL CORRESPONDENCE. HAVANA, Cuba, Jan. 31. One-half of the present winter race meeting at Oriental ! Park was completed on January 29. This marked the fifty-fifth day of the sport, it having been inaugurated on Thanksgiving day. During that period the Havana Jockey Club distributed 31,400 in purse money and L 191 horsemen shared in it. The Florida Stable and W. R. Coe are engaged in a hot : contest for the honor of leading the purse-winning owners, with the latter enjoying a .slight advantage at the end of the first half ! of the long meeting. Most of the members of ! both of these establishment have been inactive since the rainy spell set in and they will be in excellent condition to resume racing when the going again turns fast as the result . of their long rest. E. F. Whitney, who is racing here for the ; first time this winter, is faring, well and his i stable is not far off the leaders. A. S. Arthur Pickens and Johnny Callahan, two old-timers, put up a rousing battle for the leadership of the riding colony, and the former was in front by a small margin -when he encountered a suspension. Callahan has been taking things a bit easy because of the adverse conditions lately and he could have ridden in many more races had he so desired. ,T.
