FAIR GROUNDS NOTES j Calcutta, owned by G. Tt. Aflcn, is among the late nominations for the Mardi Gras Handicap. Walter Hopkins, one of the veteran trainers of the turf, was a visitor, coming here from Louisville. Mose Goldblatt, making a "quick trip to Louisville to look over the II. P. Whitney juveniles, returned here today. Steward C. W. Hay returned from Jeffer-sonville, Ind., where lie went last week to attend the funeral of his father. The program book for the Jefferson Park meeting will be distributed among horsemen the latter part of the week. T. V. irontjoy, owner of Hughes Graham, Stargo and other horses, is an arrival from his home at West Brownsville, Pa. Thirty-eight horses were excluded from the program for Tuesday and one race divided for the cheaper grade of horses. The jockey colony was increased Monday with the arrival of F. Sharpe, who came from Havana and attached himself to the stable of J. McvMillen. The management posted a notice today to the effect that complimentary badges will not bo honored next Saturday, Monday and Tuesday, the last three days of the meeting. "Happy" Buxton, one of the veteran riders and now training the horses of F. S. Page, passed throush New Orleans from Tijuana to New York to take up twenty horses wintering at Jamaica. Ttacing secretary McLennan notified horsemen that all licenses for privileges on metropolitan tracks must be filed not later than Tuesday night in order to have the Jockey Club stewards take action on them.
