AT LOUISVILLE TRACKS » . . Old Man Winter Pays Unexpected Visit Tuesday Morning. « Snow and Cold Retard Training Operations — Glide and Sanola Loom Up Prominently. LOUISVILLE. Ky.. April 1.— The unusual spectacle of a snowfall at this time of year was witnessed at both local tracks Tuesday morning when the horses were given their exercise gallops with the snowflakes falling ahout tlicni. The snow melted on the courses as soon as it fell and had little or no effect upon the tracks, both of which were in fine condition. The protracted cold weather, however, had the effect of deterring trainers from sending tlvir charges along at a fast pace. Accordingly the work in the main was restricted to long, slow gallops. At Churchill Downs. Glide and Sanola. two crack fillies that Lon Johnson is handling, were the only Kentucky Derby candidates to be given anything like pretentious trials. Trainer Johnson sent the pair for a gallop at three-quarters, the greatest distance they have been sent this year. The pair began at the head of the homestretch and, with Glide in advance all the way. they ran well in hand and finished the distance wihout much effort. The fractional time was: 24. 27%, H%, 1 :0."i. 1 : 1 0 -"s . Johnson was well satisfied with the work. He gave it as his opinion that they will be fit and ready to start in the I erby and, regardless of how they finish in that race, they will be sent after the Kentucky daks, to which stake both are potential eligible a The stable is going to pin its hopes on Glide in both the I »erby and Oaks and. while it is not believed that this fine daughter of Manager Waile and Gossip will prove to be tin- superior of the colts that engage in the Derbjr, there is a growing conviction that she will prove her worth in the Oaks.
