May 9. — Under a cloudy sky and over a heavy track Flying Fur. ■which G. W. Foreman claimed from W. J. Salmon last time out. won the Howard Claiming Handicap at Pimlico this afternoon. Immediately after the Salmon silks themselves had been carried to two victories. Mr. Salmon had II au Nash in the Howard, but the son of Jim Oaffney finished last in a field of five. Flying Fur won under restraint by six lengths. Jo Foin finished second. Julia M. ■was third at the end of the mile. J. Dawson rode the winner. He rated her behind Go Foin and Boss until almost to the three-eighths post, then he began his challenge on the outside, took the lead quickly and ■was eased near the end. The race netted ,500 to the Foreman interests, almost as much as was paid for the filly when claimed. In one of the most thrilling steeplechases of the year, a two-mile race for maidens and winners of one race. I... Vettdl scored by a length and a half astride W. J. Salmons Woodley II. Moving up rapidly on the second turn of the field, Woodley II. engaged Pepi. the pacemaker, in a duel around the far turn and wore him down after taking the last fence, Pepi beat the others off for second money. Dunks Green finished in front of tjie others. Mr. Salmon made It two in a row. After Woodley 1L had won the jumping race for him. Golden Armor carried his jacket to an easy victory over the three-quarters course. Marine]] i had the Golden Sun gelding in hand through the stretch. Ontario made the l aco for a short distance and held on for second money. From a good position at the start Abel took Bluemondale back until he was far out of it and then finished with energy in the center of the track for the small portion of the purse. Parmachenee Belle beat eight two-year-old platers in the opener. Scobie had the mount on the daughter of Troutbeek. She was in front all the way. I ena Wood challenged on the inside at the head of the stretch, but barely outlasted Crinkle for second money. F. Hastings was thrown without injury when Crimper bucked at the break. *
