5,500 FOR LEMBERG COLT E. J. Tranter Pays Top Price for Imported English Colt. Claiborne and Ellerslio Yearlings Bring Good Average Howard Oots Pays 1,.00 for Wrack Colt. SARATOGA SPRINGS, N. T., Aug. 9. The first of the two sales of A. B. Hancock, which was held at the sales ring on Friday night, brought the keenest bidding evidenced at the sales. The offering, forty-eight in number, the produce of the choicest Claiborne and Ellerslie mares, which were mated to Jim Gaffney, Wrack, The Finn, Omar Khayyam and other sires, brought a total of 51,000, an average of ,14S a head. The outstanding star of the sale was an imported bay colt, a son of Lemberg Peep. Bidding was spirited on this one and he went to E. J. Tranter, acting as agent, for 5,000. Mr. Tranter refused to divulge the name of the buyer. A bay son of Wrack Fair was knocked down to Howard Oots on the Tatters bid of 1,500, which divided honors as the second highest price with a chestnut - colt by Friar Marcus-Latest Fashion. Dr. R. W. McCully secured this colt, after brisk bidding, on his bid of 1,-500. Dr. McCully was understood as acting, as an agent. A brown filly by Man o War Star Puss, an offering of the American Remount Association, brought a bid of ,000 and she was sold to Mrs. F. Ambrose Clark. This offering became possible due to the generosity of A. B. Hancock and Mr. Riddle, owner of Man o War. Mr. Riddle donated a service to the super-horse, while Mr. Hancock donated the mare.
