I i Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of May 9, 1905 Racing at Belmont Park, Lexington, Kansas City, Union Park and Fair Grounds at St. Louis. The thirty-first annual spring meeting of the new Louisville Jockey Club will open May 11 with the Kentucky Derby as the feature of a good card. There is intense interest in the race. It is to determine the disputed supremacy of Agile and Rams Horn, to verify or wipe out the claims of the Californians as to the superiority of Dr. Leggo over anything of his age in the West and to give William McDaniel an opportunity to achieve a long cherished ambition to win with a maiden, something no trainer has accomplished in the thirty years history of the race. That McDaniel believes in the chances of McClellan is evidenced by the fact that he has named the Gerst colt as one of the five starters. At a meeting of the stewards of the Western Jockey Club, held in Chicago, they empowered [judge Perkins to waive the outlaw rule at Latonia and horsemen who cast their lot with the American Turf Association will be welcomed at Latonia. — »
