RAIN SPOILS LADIES DAY ♦ Goodly Crowd of Fair Sex Turn Out Despite the Downpour. ♦ Silver Song Easy Winner of the Kradcnton Handicap — Variation and Deadfall Engage In Hot Battle. ♦ TAMPA. Fla.. April 2--Today was ladies day at the local track, but the occasion was spoiled to some extent by rain which began shortly after noon anel continued for several hours. However, a large crowd of women made the long trip to the course and witnessed interesting racing. The track was in very bad shape and the horses stumbled repeatedly. It is doubtful if Florida ever experienced a colder day than today this late in the spring. It reminded one e.f an autumn day at Eatonia or Howie. Overcoats and wraps were in order, but failed to stave off the chill wind. The Kradenton Handicap, with a value of 11,500, was the feature today. It was over three-quarters of a mile for three-year-olds and over. The importcel horse Silver Song, making her first start since coming from Miami, was the winner in easy fashion from Seths Alibi, with Monday Morning third. The winner dominated the race, with Seths Alibi always closest in pursuit. In the race through the stretch both Seths Alibi and Monday Morning stumbled badly. The two-year-old race fell to Firewater. C. K Hurnells chestnut daughter of Omar Khayyam — Dark Water. She made a show of her rivals by racing to the front at the start anel was never even threateneel. Three Da was closest to the winner at the finish, but his opposition was net much. Signola finished fast and outgamed the others. Smile Awhile will show to better advantage over a fast track. *Eugs, an extreme outsider, was rushed to the front right after the start in the second race and easiry h -Id sway throughout. Those who held tickets on him received 2.50 for each straight ticket. Tease essayed to wear the winner down in the strete-h, but she-found the task a hopeless one. Medina was extremely hard ridden after beginning slowly and slipped up on Black Angel to take the short end of the purse. Rlack Angel would have been third under more energetic riding. The third race was run in a heavy rain, anel it was almost impossible to distinguish the colors worn by the jockeys on the back strete-h. Variation and Deadfall staged a hot battle to the head of the stretch, where the former drew away and appeared to have a safe lead. Deadfall ran out to the middle of the track. In the final sixteenth of a mile, however. Deadfall came again and, even after losing so much ground, just missed getting up. Hullo, a pronounced mud runner, cam" from behind with her usual rush in the fourth race, which was over one mile, to win with plenty e f speed in reserve. Jibe, close to the leader all the way, finished in second place, with John S. Mosby third. VVooely dominateel the early racing, but fell back near the far turn, and at the finish was staggering. Caligula. Which won his last race in the mud here, lackeel his usual speed, anel ran poorly. K. E. Major shipped his stable to Huntington, W. Va.. last night. Several other consignments e f horses will go from here tonight. JeK-key J. Jeffries left for the north last night also.
