The heavy bandages that encased the colts legs were removed and, with jockey Willie Dean on his back, the son of Phalarrs appeared to enjoy the change from the inactivity of almost a week, for it was the firs; chance he had to unlimber himself since he was placed aboard the cars at Tijuana last Monday. As he cantered around the course he was the cynosure of all eyes and his fine appearance was freely commented upon. Despite the fact that it was at an early hour when trainer Fred Kraft brought Carlaris out. a big crowd was on hand to see the colt gallop and for the first time since his arrival the photographers were able to secure pictures of him. NO STRANGER IN THESE PARTS. Carlaris is no stranger to Douglas Park, for it was at that track where he was broken and given his early training by Charlie Patterson. Realizing that thousands of people will want to obtain a view of Carlaris before the running of the Derby, and that Douglas lark. the colts present quarters is rather an unhandy place to get to. the Kentucky Jockey Club has arrangetl to have Carlaris and the others of the Anderson stable moved over to Churchill Downs next Tuesday. The colt is due for his first work on that day when he will be called upon to show his speed for I three-eighths. From a time standpoint, the trial of Recollection was the best. fe r the son of Jim Oaffney turned the distance easily in 1:47%. He went in the following fractions: :24%. :50M;. 1:03 Vg. 1:17% and eased up the mile in 1:47%. Rhinock and My Colonel both negotiated the mile in 1:30%. Harry Payne Whitneys Derby eligible. Token, displayed good speed when he rattled off a half mile in :48. He was paced by Overall and Youare. but drew away from them in the last eighth.
