TIJUANA MEETING ENDS » Long Winter Season of 125 Days Closes with Sundays Racing. ♦ Has Proved by Far the Most Successful in Every Respect — Good Crowd Out for Last Day. « TIJUANA, Mexico. April IS.— The long winter season of racing at the Tijuana Jockey Clubs course came to an entl today. When the curtain hael been run down it found that 12fi days of sport had been furnished the patrons who journeyed daily to tin-course to view the racing. The racing offered this meeting was by far the best that has ever been seen here. The sport was conducted on a high plane and all along the line nothing but praise could be heard for the management and able officials The Cof froth Handicap, won by the sensational three-year-old Carlaris. was the outstanding event of the meeting. True, there were other good races, wih big aaone attached also, but the Coffroth outshone them all. both from a monetary standpoint and popularity. The racing today was viewed by another large attendance. The coast cities were well represented as this is the last that will be seen of the thoroughbreds in these parts until next Thanksgiving Day. The finishes were spirited in most of the races, with some of them bordering on the sensational. DKKP BI.IF. STKPTUSKS. Deep Blue, racing in the colors of W. fi Heath, proved somewhat of a surprise in th» opening race when she was up in the last stride to down Old Blue. She was kept off the early pace, then working her way up gradually shortened the gap between her and Olil Bed and just nipped the latter on the wire. Old Bed set all the pace from the rise of the barrier and appeard to have the race won an eighth from home but began tiring slightly and was passed by the winner. She had no difficulty in holding Thelma C. safe for the place portion of the purse. The latter was the favored one and ran an even race throughout. Bigwig was well up in the early racing but began tiring when the stretch was reached but held on fairly well. In the second race, the favorite. Smart Horse proved easily best and was home an easy winner by two lenghths. His rider elected to save him off the early pace, then when the stretch was reached called on his mount and drew away with ease. Grey Bock was racing in a contending position throughout and made a game finish but was no match for the winner. He only had a neck advantage over Baby Doll at tin-finish. The latter also put up a game fight but tired slightly at the finish. Lasses White was the one to set the pace but tiretl when the stretch was reached and was not persevered with thereafter. A SENSATIONAL FINISH. A sensational finish came with the running of the third race when Blue Dale, the extereme outsider, was up in the last stride to take the purse from Bunleigh. Blue Pale was a distant trailer until the turn into the home stretch wher he came with terrific rush on the outside and passing first one and then another, finally got to the leader and in a brief struggle managed to get the decision. Bunleigh had set the pace until well into the stretch and looked all over the winner, but his rider was not aware of the fast closing Blue Dale and as a conse-epience lost the race. He had no trouble in saving the place from Sportsman. The latter was a warm favorite and was thought to have the raee at his mercy but after racing lose up throughout began tiring and was lucky to hold Mint Julep save at the finish. Pop Byan ran his string of victories to three in a row when he accounted for the fourth race on the card. The son of Dr. Leggo was kept under restraint the first mile or so and when his rider e-alled on him he had plenty in reserve, with the result that he easily passetl the others and had nearly a length to spare at the finish under a hand ride. Star Cloudy raced nearest to the winner throughout and made a game but unavailing finish, but coukl never get to the winner. His margin in turn was a head over Mannikin II. The latter was the early pacemaker, but he began tiring when the stretch was reached. Marine Corps was racing in a contending position in the early stages, but he could not keep up and was lucky to hold I »umbfounder safe. Tailteann proved his last win was no fluke when he accounted for the fifth race in hand, fashion. At the end he was clear by a length over Dovesroost. The latter had set the pace until turning lor home but began tiring then was passed by Tailteann. Ilar-rigans Heir trailed his opponents until turning for bana whet he set sail and racing fastest of all at the finish was able to take tiiird money from Oeorge Starr but was still some distance away from the first two All Mum was well up in the early stages but found the pace to fast and dropped fit- back, finishing in last place.
