REJUVENATION WINS Gives Sparkling Exhibition in Decoration Day Handicap Tremendous Gathering Fills the theSpacious Spacious Plant L Pichon PichonRides Rides Five Winners COLLINSVILLE III May 30 L T Coopers Rejuvenation gave a sparkling exhibition in the Decoration Day Handicap at one mile which featured Fairmount Parks sport today and registered a victory after he appeared hopelessly out of it the result of being retarted in his sendoff by one of the assistant starters startersHis His failure at the barrier left him many lengths in the wake of the others and he found additional trouble at the first turn where he was caught in a pocket and could only get free when straightened out on the back stretch When he did secure racing room he moved fast and rapidly overhauled the fastgoing Huntsman which had moved into a good lead immediately after the start startRejuvenation Rejuvenation continued at a fast pace when reaching the stretch and under urging managed to overhaul Huntsman and beat him to the finish by a short halflength Huntsman had no difficulty retaining second place being well in advance of Traveller with Martha Washington and Sea Rocket the other starters trailing trailingDecoration Decoration Day brought to Fairmount Park one of the largest attendances that has ever been present at the track excepting Derby Day last year The huge gathering con jested the massive plant and made it diffi ¬ cult to move about aboutThe The clubhouse delegation was on a par with the grandstand and lawn and the crowd in this exclusive section also found it diffi ¬ cult to move about without considerable jostling jostlingL L Pichon was the hero of the day with five winners winnersTHREE THREE FOR J B RESPESS RESPESSJ J B Respess and jockey L Pichon had a field day The popular owner sent three representatives to the post and each was returned winner in his respective race The trio was ridden by Pichon who also added a victory with Polk Lafoons Busy Day which came home unattended in the substi ¬ tute race The Respess success began in the inaugural race when Gotham got up in the last few strides to down Pocket Mouse Traymore followed with a victory for the Respess colors in the foruth race which served as the secondary feature for the aft ¬ ernoon Traymores success came only after a hardfought effort on his part The con ¬ cluding Respess victory came in the sixth race when Hornsby won from a good band which included Purple Pirate a Fairmount Derby eligible that is highly regarded Hornsby raced with Purple Pirate in the early stages and the fast pace he caused the latter to maintain caused him to swerve badly when hard pressed and he barely saved second place from the fastfinishing Ennui On his showing this afternoon Purple Pirate did not impress close observers as a Derby prospect prospectJ J B Respess earned his first success of the meeting when his Gotham annexed the opening race at threequarters Gothan was up in the last few strides to down Pocket Mouse in spectacular style Pocket Mouse had been the leader from the start and after shaking off the early leaders appeared a certain winner until Gotham came with a charge challenge Shasta Rock one of the outsiders landed in third place Gareth and Foretell were among the outstanding dis ¬ appointments in the race raceBUSY BUSY DAY REPEATER REPEATERPolk Polk Laffoons Busy Day which scored an easy victory on the opening day repeated this afternoon when he led for the entire distance in the one mile and a sixteenth substitute race to win by a big margin from Harry Carroll with Ruth Gold in third place The winner ridden by L Pichon making his second victory for the afternoon always held his opponents safe although near the end Harry Carroll was pressing him Harry Carroll again began slowly and followed far back for threequarters but came fast thereafter to down Ruth Gold for second place placeThe The third race which brought an ordinary band to the post resulted in an upset when Outing an extreme outsider got up in the last stride to down Foxmore by a matter of inches Outing had been a laggard in the early stages while Foxmore showing fine speed had dominated the running and after shaking off Fallen Leaf appeared to have the race won He tired slightly however in the last sixteenth and Outing coming stead ¬ ily got up in the final strides Harry B closed a nimmense gai to finish in third place Moss Fox II Kendall and Flames at ¬ tracted ttomddcraETe attention in the race
