GIRL SCOUT REPEATS Wins From Flat Iron and Orestes II in Liberty Handicap Hats Up Proves a Dismal Failure First Success of Meeting Meetingfor for Garth Colors HOMEWOOD 111 June 9 Girl Scout making her initial appearance since her triumph in the Washington Park Handicap on the opening day when she numbered among her victims Noreaster and Prince of Wales duplicated her effort today when she scored over the crack Flat Iron and Orestes II in the Liberty Handicap at three quarters quartersOne One of the best band of sprinters which could be mustered in these parts started in the race and it resulted in the fastest con ¬ test of the present meeting the Three Ds Stables good mare showing the way to the finish in 113 113The The start found the entire band of thir ¬ teen starters in almost perfect alignment with The Heathen and Girl Scout setting the pace The Heathen had enough after th first quarter but Girl Scout successfully stalled off determined challenges by Senator Norris and Orestes II in the early stages She began tiring in the last eighth and Flat Iron coming fast and gamely cut down her lead until only half a length separated her from her rival at the finish Flat Iron was going the fastest He is known to favor a route and he probably can beat the Texas owned filly at a longer distance Orestes II finishing gamely outstayed Senator Norris for third place placeTRACK TRACK 3IUCH IMPROVED IMPROVEDIdeal Ideal weather again prevailed and coupled with the improved program it brought a big crowd to Washington Park to view the racing this afternoon The track is beginning to show improvement nad when the loose top layer solidifies fast time will be the order orderThere There was also more betting activity this afternoon than on any former day this week weekJoe Joe Junior furnished the upset in the sixth race which he won in easy fashion from Up and Down with Mollie Myhill in third place He was ridden by L Hardy and the change from W Robinson worked a considerable im ¬ provement in the colts performance as well as his post actions He was away with the leaders today raced prominently in the early stages and moved into the lead when called on winning with much in reserve from Up and Down The latter showed a good effort and easily held Mollie Myhill safe for second place Mollie Myhill would have figured more extensively with a better ride rideHats Hats Up which had registered in his pre ¬ vious start was held to be good enough to beat the eleven others he met in the third race and was accorded confident support He failed dismally partly the fault of Chia vetta his rider who was unprepared at the start resulting in Hats Up being away slowly He then raced wide throughout New Beauty began fully in motion and rac ¬ ing in her best form and showing the most speed for the entire distance had little dif ¬ ficulty staying in the lead Finland after a slow beginning worked a rough trip and continuing gamely in the stretch wore down the others for second place Queen Bessie showing an improved performance landed third place sMghtly in advance of Bird Be ¬ have which had closed an immense gap in the last eighth Keegan another stoutly backed one quit badly after reaching the last eighth eighthBOGAX BOGAX HOME FIRST FIRSTWilliam William Garths colors were carried to their first victory of the meeting when his Bogan was home before a band of nine other maiden twoyearolds Bogan benefited by the send off but relinquished his advantage to Rhubarb in the first eighth The latter then led until the stretch turn was reached where he was again passed by Bogan and shortly after Sun Friar and Leyland also wore him down Bogan near the end had to be mildly urged to keep in advance of the fast coming Sun Friar The latter showed a sparkling effort and is due soon for a winning bracket bracketC C H Knebelkamps Gera B a daughter of Pennant Triple Crown accounted for the second race another twoyearold maiden affair at five eighths Gera B was some ¬ what of a good thing based on the volume of support she had Ambitious and Twenty One Sixty were fighting it out hard in the stretch when Gera B came on the outside of the pair and under hustling tallies wore down the leaders to win drawing away Twenty One Sixty holding on well under punishment succeeded in shaking off Ambi ¬ tious in the last sixteenth Divot made a good showing to close a big gap after a slow beginning beginningThe The sixth race which brought a lowly band to the post produced the best finish of the afternoon when Last Cent Blended and Waponoca terminated the mile trip but short margins apart Last Cent had ap ¬ peared beaten when beginning the stretch Continued on twentieth pace GIRL SCOUT REPEATS Continued from first page run but he came again in the last eighth and coming with determination got up in the final strides to down Blended Wapo noca closed an immense gap after going half a mile and had little opposition for third place placeBolivar Bolivar Bond was again made favorite but this time he was in with an ordinary band and though he raced in last place for nearly half of the trip he moved up steadily when called on and came away in the stretch to win as his rider pleased Foolscap an ex ¬ treme outsider also closed fast through the stretch to land in second place Papa Blinks beat out Sagamook for the shorter part of the purse The early leaders Transfer Rock ¬ ing and Bosh faded fast when the actual racing in the stretch began
