FOUR STRAIGHT VICTORIES Sir Glen Accounts for Sixth Race at Connaught Park P F Joyce Again Furnishes Winner of Best BestRace Race on Afternoons Card Eggnogs EggnogsAuspicious Auspicious Debut OTTAWA Ont June 9 For the second time in as many days P F Joyce had the distinction of sending the winner to the post for the best race on the card at Connaught Park This came about when Saratoga Maje sporting the colors of the Pennsylvania sen ¬ ator was first to cross the winning line in the fourth race today This race attracted a field of seven to start over the five and a half furlongs route and it was by far the best race that was scheduled on the card for the second day of the spring meeting here barrier when starter Cassidy sent them away and dominated the running throughout after stalling off early contention from Nim rod and The Vintner The winner under Fishmans energetic riding resisted a chal ¬ lenge from Long Point which was closest to him at the finish they being separated by a neck margin while just a head back of them Danger Signal drove in to share the purse The Vintner received a heavy play but after a half mile tired and was unplaced when the numbers were displayed displayedNOSE NOSE VICTORY VICTORYSir Sir Gleff scored his fourth consecutive vic ¬ tory in as many starts when he accounted for the mile and onesixteenth sixth race which had nine starters Taking the lead at the rise of the barrier the winner raced along under slight urging in the early stages and after putting Milord away withstood keen opposition in the last halfmile to withstand repeated challenges from Ranock which eventually finished second beaten a nose Camilla raced into third place with Sea Green finishing fourth and the others well up at the finish finishThreatening Threatening overhead conditions had very little effect on the attendance and the crowd was up to the standard of any other off day in previous years Track conditions showed very little change from the rain of the pre ¬ vious evening the going remaining firm and good time was made in the various races offered for the second days racing racingThe The Senate Purse fashioned for juveniles which have never earned brackets was the opening race on the program and eleven strived to earn their first purse This con ¬ test was decided over the fiveeighths route and the talent began the day auspiciously when they installed Walter J Salmons Black Friar an oddson choice and he lived up to expectations by scoring in a terrific drive after racing forwardly throughout to beat Ella Rufus by a head The latter saved second place by a length from Omars Double with the others fairly well strung out outEggnog Eggnog making his first appearance under colors this year showed a brilliant effort to take the measure of the seven others that opposed him in the second race a dash over the threequarters course for which Carol another firsttime starter this year was made choice He failed to gather any part of the purse after racing forwardly El Oudiane at long odds took the second place award and Byway outstayed Carol CarolSNIPER SNIPER SURPRISES SURPRISESNonwinners Nonwinners since April 15 answered the call for the threequarters mile third race and of the seven that started the winner came from unexpected quarters when Sniper in close pursuit of the leaders from the rise of the barrier stood a long drive in game fashion and got up in the final few strides to nose out Cast By The latter raced in the van from the start and was kept close to the inner rail but succumbed to the win ¬ ners rush right at the end Subtle came from well back to finish in third place while Fire Dog led the others to the finish mark after encountering interference rounding the turn into the main stretch that eliminated him from sharing in the purse purseBrotherhood Brotherhood held at prohibitive odds in the fifth race which was the first of the long distance races to be decided made good in a stirring drive that taxed his stamina to be winner in a furious drive by a scant nose over JBethlehem Compass was the one to take down the short end of the purse after racing at the throat latch of the winner for the first seveneighths and his challenges had much to do in causing the winner to tire during the final stages of the journey There were ten starters and strong support was accorded several of them
