TURF PRIZES OF 83,580 Distributed Among Horsemen During Belmont Spring Meeting. J. E. "Widcncr Is Largest Winner Through Prowess of Chance Shot Complete Statistics of Twcntr-Onc Days of Ilacing. j I The Westchester Racing Association dis- trlbuted a total of 83,580. a daily average i of 518,26s, in turf prizes during the spring meeting at Belmont Park, which comprised twenty-one days of racing, from May 19 to June 1L Twenty important stake features, together With many overnight handicaps, made up an attractive program, which brought together a majority of the foremost stars of the year. Chance Shot won the richest event of the meeting, the historical Belmont Stakes, worth 0,910 to the winner. This crack three-year-old likewise carried off the "Withers Stakes, of a net value of 3,250. The great Crusader was triumphant in the Suburban Handicap and thereby gained more fame, being the only horse to twice win that famous race. J. 13. AVidener, president of the Westchester Racing Association, chiefly through the prowess of Chance Shot, was the largest money winner of the owners taking part In the meeting, his horses accounting for seven races, in addition to finishing second seven times and en iching the stable coffers to the extent of 2,015. Chance Shot, because of the great victories mentioned above, heads the list of the money-winning horses, with 5,165. Dice, Groucher, Nimba, Black Maria, Crusader and Jolly Roger were among other horses that figured prominently in the racing. G. Fields rode the largest number of winners among the flat riders, with L. Fator a close second, the first mentioned piloting thirteen, the latter twelve.
