HAWTHORNE STAKE RACES 5,000 Added Hawthorne Handi - cap Major Race on Program — Special Features of ,000. The Chicago Business Mens Pacing Association, which conducts the sport at the popu- tar old Hawthorne course, announced its program of Stake races today, the major contest of which is the Hawthorne Handicap, with 3.ouo added, for three-year-olds and over, at one mile and a sixteenth. In addition to the Hawthorne Handicap there is the ,000 added Hawthorne Juvenile Handicap, ,000 added Hawthorne Speed Handicap, for three-year-olds and over, at three-quarters, and the ,000 added Hawthorne Special Handicap, for three-year-olds. at one mile and a sixteenth. The Hawthorne Juvenile Handicap will be decided over the three-quarters distance. Each Tuesday and Thursday during the summer and fall meetings there will be a .ooo feature, while no handicap will carry a purse less than ,300. Purses range from ,200 upwards. The above mentioned stake races are due to dose July 7. Hawthornes summer meeting begins July 30 and extends to August 23. embracing twenty-four racing days.
