RETURN OF CRUSADER ♦ May Start in Philadelphia Handicap at Havre de Grace. 1 Star of Glen Riddle Stable of Twenty-Three Horses Reported in Fine Fettle. « HAVRE DE GRACE. Md., April 13— Crusader, crack three-year-old of 1926 and Suburban Handicap winner last year, is the star of the stable of twenty-three horses, including nine three-year-olds and thirteen two-year-olds, that George Conway brought from Glen Riddle Farm on the eastern shore of Maryland for the meeting of the Harford Agricultural and Breeders* Association, which will begin April 16. Crusader will probably make his first appearance as a five-year-old in the 0,000 Philadelphia Handicap, a gallop of one and one-sixteenth miles, for three-year-olds and over, the vehicle for his four-year-old debut last spring. Crusader disappointed in last springs Philadelphia, nor did he strike a winning gait until he defeated Black Maria, Macaw, Display, Dangerous. Chance Play, Forever and Ever and Marylandar in the Suburban. But this is another year. Conway believes that he is better than he was last spring. He and his twenty-three stable companions wintered splendidly at Glen Riddle Farm. The Glen Riddle three-year-olds are War Whoop. Canteen. Admirals Lassie. Marine Blue, Shan Ridilar. Gem of the Ocean, Tokio, Highness and Vespers. There does not appear, last seasons form considered, to be anything of either Preakness or Derby quality in this group, although War Whoop, a winner in Maryland last fall— War Whoop. is a son of Man o War — Highest Appeal — has been named for the Preakness Stakes and probably will ha*ve a public trial in the Chesapeake. Havre de Graces 0,000 gallop of one and one-sixteenth miles, for three-year-olds. TW0-YE VR-OLD RACERS. The Glen Riddle two-year-olds are as follows : Mariners Compass, ch. c. by Man o War— Milky Way. War Horse, cii. r. by Man o War — Early Bird. Shipmaster. •■. C, I.v Man o War — Sfribble. Battleship Gray, gr. c. by Man o War — Alice Blue Gown. Naomi, ch. f. by Man o War — Ursula Emma. War Woman. eu. f. by Man o War— Topaz. iobs. ch. c. by Mai. o War — Santissima. Jack Tar. blk. c, by Oceanic — Thrasher. American Navy. b. g. by Oceanic — Flotilla. Black Watch, br. c. by St. James — Shady. Golden Fruit, b. sr. by Golden Broom — Green Fruit. Little Annie, b. f. by Golden Broom — Anette K. On-Her-Toes, br. f, by High Time— Tripping. UNUSUAL MAX O WAR COLT. A gray Man o War colt is unusual. The super horse begets chestnuts. Crusader, Mars, American Flag. Maid at Arms and 1 Dress Parade are sorrels. But he is not what the breeding sharps call a pure dominant. Scapa Flow and Florence Nightingale are browns. Edith Cavell and Bateau, the last named the Selima Stakes winner of last fall and the best Man o War twb-year-old of her season, are bays. This colt Battleship Gray inherits his gray coat from Alice Blue Gown, whose first born he is. Alice Blue Gown is a daughter of Luke McLuke and Carene, she an imported daughter of Grey Lag. Alice raced a few years ago Tinder the silks of John Oliver Keene, and with some distinction. Apparently Riddle and Conway think well of Battleship Gray, also of Shipmaster and Black Warch. For these colts have been named for many stakes that have closed since the two-year-olds were tried last fall. Riddle races his smart youngsters early when they come- to hand quickly. So it is probable that Conway will have something ready for the Aberdeen Stakes. ■
