CANADIAN INAUGURAL Racing Season in the Dominica Begins at Woodbine Kings Plate Oldest Race Ruri RuriContinuously Continuously on Continent T Opening Feature TORONTO Ont May 1C Racing in the Dominion of Canada will be inaugurated for the year 1930 with the opening tomorrow afternoon of the sevenday spring meeting at Woodbine Park the beautiful Toronto race course of the Ontario Jockey Club Unlike in other years the local track will be the only pne in Canada operating today and in fact until next Wednesday when the western racing starts at Victoria Park in Calgary Alberta The Montreal season does not get under way until next Saturday when Mount Royal inaugurates the usual sevenday meet ¬ ing Last year the Canadian season was in ¬ augurated at Woodbine Park in Toronto Kings Park in Montreal and Chinook Park in Calgary all in the same day dayCanadas Canadas pioneer course never looked better than at the present time the outlook for ex ¬ cellent sport was never more promising and all that is needed to make the opening one of the most brilliant in years is favorable weather There never was a better brand of horses available for the sport than those sta ¬ bled at the East End and other Toronto courses And there are more than enov h to supply the sport sportA A splendid program has been arranged for the inaugural days racing with the 15000 added Kings Plate at a mile and an eighth of cpurse the stellar attraction No fewer than twenty have been entered overnight for the seventyfirst running of the greatest Canadian classic and this constitutes an unusually large field one more than the es ¬ timated number H C Hatchs Natures Eye being a surprise last minute entry entryThis This lineup will represent the best avail ¬ able for this greatest of all Canadian bred fixtures and a memorable running should result resultSO SO OUTSTANDING FAVORITE FAVORITEFor For once there is no outstanding favorite Had the Seagram Stables Freethinker gone he would have undoubtedly been the center of attention but with this future favorite out interest appears to be pretty evenly divided between the Fletcher and Davies en tfies Both have strong hands handsFor For a supplementary feature and of sec ¬ ondary importance on the card is the Fraser Memorial Steeplechase Handicap a gallop of two miles and a fitting tribute to the late William P Fraser secretarytreasurer of the Ontario Jockey Club for a score of years and a man who was largely responsible for the greatness that has come to the association that he served so faithfully The Fraser Memorial Steeplechase Handicap is endowed with 5000 added and for this running eleven timber toppers that have been seen in action during the Maryland season will make their appearance appearanceThe The remainder of the card should bring about some excellent sport as the fields are evenly matched And with good riders available it is certain that racing will be more spirited spiritedRacing Racing is scheduled to start at 230 day ¬ light saving time and every arrangement possible has been made to handle the throngs that will come by auto tramway and rail ¬ road
