ALDERSHOT MUCH THE BEST Dwells at Start But Overcomes Handicap and Wins Debut Purse Attraction at llelmont Park Quarterdeck Disqualified In Free port Handicap NEW YORK N Y May 1C Aldcrshot passing the others in the first quarter after dwelling at the start cantered in front for the remainder of the seven furlongs of the Debut Purse in the third renewal at Belmont Park today Gifford A Cochrans geid3d son of Man o War and Coronis ridden by Jimmy Burke defeated eleven other good threeyear olds making their first start under colors in the race which had a net value of 3923 to the winner He completed the seven furlongs over a muddy track in 1 29 to defeat the Rolling Plain Stables Milkman by four lengths the latter holding Xenofol stable mate of the winner safe by half a length Balmoral was fourth fourthThe The start was a poor one and Aldershot having the insida post position was among those caught flatfooted Once in motion however Aldershot had the most speed and finding an opening next to the inner rail rapidly faced to the front and reaching the far turn had racing room with Milkman as his nearest competitor competitorOn On the turn Aldershot opened up a com ¬ manding lead and McAtee seeing that Milk ¬ man was unequal to the task of catching the Man o War gelding rated his mount along Aldershot had no trouble holding his big advantage but after entering the long stretch Milkman was threatened by Xenofol and Balmoral When Xenofol threatened to pass Milkman McAtee urged the Cudgel Milk ¬ maid colt and he held the Negofol colt safe and was drawing away at the end Xenofol also was away slowly and showed a good performance While Balmoral was away well and a loss of ground as his only excuse excuseClear Clear skies greeted the good crowd and the track dried out steadily throughout the day giving the impression that it will be fast Saturday if there is no more rain rainA A disqualification came in the Freeport Handicap when M L Schwartzs Quarter Deck which finished second to Frank E Browns Bud Broom was set back He was disqualified for fouling and bumping Kai Feng from the Rancocas Stable entering the stretch The action was taken upon the report of the patrol judges Spearhead from the Tedlu Stable was moved into third place Kai Feng and Quarter Deck were rated along under restraint setting the early pace which was slow while Bud Broom and Spearhead were lapped on each other two lengths back The same positions were maintained to the stretch turn where Kelsay moved up on the outside with Bud Broom It was here that Quarter Deck bumped Kai Feng and then as they straightened out for the run through the stretch he bumped the Rancocas starter again Bud Broom finishing resolutely wore down the leaders and at the end was draw ¬ ing away while Kai Feng under pressure came again and was a scant half length short of overhauling Quarter Deck Spearhead was a distant fourth fourthThe The official ruling caused the new placing as follows Bud Broom Kai Feng and Spear ¬ head headMarshall Marshall Fields Chosa ridden by H Thur ber dominated the running of the opening race of the day a dash through the Widener course for twoyearolds under claiming con ¬ ditions Under pressure she showed the way to Mrs Louise Viaus Flamma while Black Castle from the Dorwood Stable was third A field of 14 starters started here and Chosa was awarded stout support
