AFTERNOON OF UPSETS My Dandy and Karl Eitel Among Outstanding Failures Nusakan Furnishes Greatest Sur ¬ prise at Washington Park Look at Lillian Graduates IIOMEWOOD 111 June 11 Nusakan the veteran son of Sun Briar recently acquired by C B Irwin Cheyenne turfman today figured in his first winning effort under that owners colors and added to a number of surprises when he scored in the Morri ¬ son Hotel Handicap the feature at Washing ¬ ton Park Racing in suddenly improved form the victor ran the distance in 112 to win by a half length from the Graceland Stock Farms Club House and T S Jordan the Peabody veteran followed a length back Four others started and including as they did the greatly admired My Dandy and Karl Eitel the result caused much disappoint ¬ ment But for his inability to get through next to the rail in the final eighth Karl Eitel might have been a stronger factor at the end but My Dandy under the guid ¬ ance of P Garrity figured in one of the poorest efforts of his career and was more than ten lengths back as he finished in fifth place leading Double Heart and Wisdom WisdomT T S Jordan was the one to display the most speed from the start while Karl Eitel after leaving the starting machine in good fashion was swiftly shuffled back While setting the early pace T S Jordan was fol ¬ lowed closest by Wisdom but he gave way almost without notice entering the stretch and Nusakan easily supplanted him as the runnerup runnerupClub Club House after making a wide turn into the stretch was moving up fast as T S Jordan led the winner by a half length ap ¬ proaching the final eighth and the subsequent racing witnessed the early leader giving way slowly and Nusakan gamely outstaying Club House HouseKARL KARL EITEL LOOMS UP UPFor For a brief time Karl Eitel loomed up dangerously on the inside jn the final drive but T S Jordan blocked his course along the rail and he was forced to follow behind the tiring early leader in the run to the finish finishThe The field for the feature of the afternoon of less than limit proportions and the un wielded fields all attracted from among the inferior performers contributed to the lack of formal results Cloudy weather failed to keep down the crowd and notwithstanding their failure to center their support on the more successful horses they manifested great enthusiasm over the close finishes finishesThats Thats It the Three Ds Stock Farms Polymelian filly came through with consider ¬ able improvement over her previous Wash ¬ ington Park effort to win the first race This was over seveneighths and the winner ridden by Tommy May outstayed Shift in a mild drive to win by a half length She led throughout the long stretch while Jack Haskell aided by a big saving of ground easily overhauled Knockabout and Estin the favorite for third place Estin lost ground throughout and at the stretch turn was close to the center of the track with Knockabout forcing him wide After delaying the start for eigth minutes Moscow under the inex ¬ perienced M Tucker began poorly poorlyFIELD FIELD HORSE SCORES SCORESGarrick Garrick an unsexed son of Stefan the Great and Momentilla provided by Jake Lowenstein local turfman and grouped with Brussels and Morpheus in the mutuel field furnished a big surprise when he scored his maiden victory in the second race Eleven other nonwinners from among the cheaper grade juveniles went to the post for the five and onehalf furlongs affair and Brown Hills took second place a neck back and a nose in front of Spar SparGarrick Garrick and Brown Hills raced from a good distance back with belated speed but it was only in the final strides that they wore down Spar and Beige which gave way slowly after having figured in a spirited tilt for the lead during much of the race raceCharm Charm proved a winner for the Arsonia Stable when she outsprinted Calgary Kay Call Play and nine others from among the older platers suited by a distance of seven eighths in the third race Floyd Halbert sent the winner to the front shortly after the start and rating her along in clever fashion as he gamely maintained her speed reached the finish a neck in the van of Calgary Kay which kept in nearest pursuit through Continued on twentyfirst page
