BAMBOULA IMPRESSES Shows a Return to Her Best Form in Winning Hawthorne Purse Rules Odds On Choice and Triumphs TriumphsOver Over Money Getter and Dark DarkConquest Conquest With Ease DETROIT Mich June 5 Bamboula the 1933 Illinois Oaks winner returned to her best form when she was an easy winner of the Hawthorne Purse fifth and principal event offered at the Fair Grounds track here this afternoon Money Getter carried the col ¬ ors of William T Waggoner Sons Three Ds Stock Farm Stable into second place a head before the Fair Field Stables Dark Conquest A field of seven started for the mile race with Money Getter a Detroit Derby eligible and Kumhere the only three yearolds to engage against the more sea ¬ soned performers performersThere There was a quick start to the feature with Bamboula the first under way Dark Conquest made a game effort at reaching second position in the run to the first turn but Money Getter beat him to the turn and he forced the pace from there on Although he held third place throughout Dark Con ¬ quest came over slightly at the far turn when George Rose attempted to send Pre War between him and that blocking elim ¬ inated Pre War From that stage to the finish it was a battle between the leading trio with Dark Conquest which lost con ¬ siderable ground entering the stretch wear ¬ ing down Money Getter at the end endNO NO CAUSE FOR WORRY WORRYBamboula Bamboula which was making her second start of the year was installed a 3 to 5 choice never gave her backers cause for worry and although she covered the mile in the rather slow time of 139 she was never extended extendedWith With the exception of Red Roamer which began slowest of all and finished fourth Pre War which met interference the others were never prominent prominentDespite Despite the midsummer weather which made conditions very uncomfortable there was another large crowd present for the sport Favorites enjoyed one of their best days of the meeting and when G L Hamil ¬ tons Incandescent lasted to beat the fast finishing Blind Brook at the end of the fourth race it marked the fourth straight victory for those held in greatest esteem Third went to Even Play PlayThere There was a good start in the race which served as the supporting attraction and although the lightly regarded Lucy Sabine raced into a long lead in the first half mile Mose Helm who previously scored with Par Value was waiting patiently with the ulti ¬ mate winner After reaching the stretch Helm drove the winner into command He soon attained a clear lead but Blind Brook which saved ground entering the stretch came with a rush and at the end was three quarters of a length back of the winner tind half a length before Even Play which reached a contending position in the last quarter quarterBY BY SMALLEST OF MARGINS MARGINSA A nose decided the first race a five fur ¬ longs dash for maiden twoyearolds when the Tranquility Farms Jim X got up to beat Dark Dianne which shared favoritism with the winner Pish Tush vas third in the limit field fieldAlthough Although the unsexed son of SanUtar and Valencia began slowly and was in close quarters during the opening furlong he picked up the leaders fast when Joe Judy steered him to the outside and wore down Dark Dianne in the last stages With the ex ¬ ception of Green Lotus which had command for a furlong and Positive Pearl which forced the early pace the others were never prominent prominentWillis Willis Sharpe Kilmers Sun Teaparty ac ¬ counted for the second maiden twoyearold filly race which was a division of the first event Although she came to the finish with a twolength margin the daughter of Sun Briar and Teapot was under a hand drive Lucy Dear held on well to beat Station Belle for the second award awardAbe Abe Bartelstein Chicago owner furnished the winner when Par Value scored his sec ¬ ond consecutive victory of the meeting in accounting for the third race Inflate sec ¬ ond choice to the winner was second with Cuirassier third Under a well judged ride on the part of Mose Helm the winner was taken off the pace when Inflate rushed into contention from a slow beginning and after the pacemaker tired from his exacting ef ¬ fort Helm brought the winner to the fore and the finish found him a neck in the van and drawing away
