DERBY CANDIDATES IN FINAL SPEED TRIALS LOUISVILLE Ky May 3 Most of the starters in the Kentucky Derby were asked by their trainers for short speed trials this morning as blow outs for their hard race tomorrow afternoon The Churchill Downs track was in sloppy condition from a steady downpour through the night and the three rainstorms yesterday yesterdayC C V Whitneys Today displayed the most speed galloping four furlongs in 47 after going the quarter in 23 and threeeighths in 34 The Greentree Stables Plat Eye also had good speed in the going and was timed a halfmile in 48 being hard held all the way by Silvio Coucci CoucciOther Other Derby colts going over the half mile distance were Mrs R B Fairbanks Blue ¬ beard timed in 50 E R Bradleys Box thorn tabbed in 51 and the Fair Fields Sta ¬ bles Sun Fairplay caught in 49 The last named was accompanied by the older Sun Apollo All were under restraint restraintSeen Seen in three furlongs efforts were J Louchheims Morpluck Brookmeade Sta ¬ bles Psychic Bid and Braedalbane Stables Weston Morpluck and Psychic Bid each went in 38 breeing and Weston went in 36 handily handilyHal Hal Price Headleys Whopper required 105 to go five furlongs in handy fashion and the Milky Way Farms Stables Whiskolo galloped the distance in 101 the half in 48 going handily all the way Thomas C Wordens Prince Splendor was under steady restraint as he breezed threequarters in 118 the half in 51 the longest test given any of the candidates
