SHREVEPORT DAY SUCCESSFUL Polo Pony Race Proves to Be Most Exciting Race of Day Gold Play Night Gown and Prince Pad PadAccount Account for Purses Weather WeatherContinues Continues Fine SHREVEPORT La Nov 1 Thrills ga ¬ lore were provided the gathering of racing fans at the State Fair Grounds who partici ¬ pated in Shreveport Day arranged by the State Jockey Club Close finishes resulted in the majority of contests and the novelty race for polo ponies ridden by members of the Shreveport Riding and Polo Club proved one of the most exciting of these the riders demonstrating fine horsemanship In addi ¬ tion to the novelty race the Shreveport Country Club Claiming Purse and the Broad moor Country Club Purse shared in the spot ¬ light on the eightrace program which was presented under ideal conditions With the temperature dropping somewhat it was still an ideal autumn day dayIn In the Shreveport Country Club event a field of five sprinters traveled six furlongs with Guy Shultz Prince Pad coming from behind impressively to be returned the victor by a margin of a neck over Jameson Per Chlnese Empress and Ragacreek drawing up the rear a length behind the third horse Although five went postward in the race only four completed the trip as a mishap oc curred to Alva Coventryy after going a short distance from the break stumbling and going down to unseat his rider Chinese Empress set the pace for the first three fur ¬ longs of the journey then Allegory forged into the lead while Prince Pad trailed for the first half mile Moving up rapidly and despite being forced extremely wide around the final bend Prince Pad proved equal to the task of overtaking the leaders leadersEXTRA EXTRA ATTRACTION ATTRACTIONThe The Shreveport Riding and Polo Clubs Special bringing together nine ponies which was offered as an added attraction proved to be one of the most thrilling and exciting contests of its kind to be staged anywhere All of the riders are owners of the ponies and proved themselves to be highly capable equestrians with Mr Thad Andress astride Night Gown scoring a head decision over Rabbit ridden by Mr Harris while Lady Luck with Mr H R Scivally in the saddle was a length farther back In third place and a head in front of Leon OQuinns Cognac CognacA A quick start was effected and the field was closely bunched for the entire trip Cutey forged to the front soon after the break but bore out at the final turn and lost some ground at which point Night Gown moved into a slight lead and fought it out gamely all through the stretch to out ¬ stay Rabbit
