McCUAN FILLY IS VICTORIOUS Hasty Star Beats Fast Band in the Rumford Purse at Pawtucket Weather and Track Conditions Ideal foi foiSport Sport Viajero and Primer Among Amongthe the Winners PAWTUCKET R I Nov 1 Hasty Star which was making her first start for Mrs E McCuan who claimed the Haste filly last out took the measure of a shifty band of twoyearold sprinters in the Rumford Purse fifth on the program Grisette from the locallyowned stable of B F Lister finished second Major B was another two and a half lengths off the runnerup Grape Vine was fourth after coming from far back backHasty Hasty Star went to the front at once this afternoon Unlike on several other occa ¬ sions she did not quit this afternoon but hung on gamely when challenged in the late stages by Grisette GrisetteMajor Major B was the one to follow her most closely but in the final threesixteenths he was unable to stall off the closing bid of Grisette GrisetteThe The weather and track conditions were perfect for the days program A warm sun shone throughout the afternoon improving the track with the running of each succeed ¬ ing event which insures a lightning fast track for the running of the Aquidneck Handicap tomorrow tomorrowSUBSTANTIAL SUBSTANTIAL RETURN RETURNViajero Viajero scored in the opening event at six furlongs and returned the handsome price of 4700 after finishing in 114 He took the lead early in the running J Paradise nursed him along going down the back stretch but Mr Buddy moved up to challenge and take the lead away from him The Bud Lerner horse however could not hold the lead and Viajero took command again midway of the stretch He held command thereafter under a punishing drive Believer came from well back in the running to take third place Lottafun and Mr Buddy were the favorites for the event Lottafun gained a contending position early but tired in the final three sixteenths sixteenthsMrs Mrs Tom Marshalls Primer ridden by Quintero won the six furlongs second event by a nose and a very short nose indeed over P Mecklenbergs Leo D The second horse lost a lot of ground on the turn when he at ¬ tempted to come through on the rail and was blocked and had to come around the entire field Mrs Bill Hodsons Fair Time the favorite finished third a length and a half off the battling leaders and a length in front of HiSwing HiSwingSing Sing Low made the early pace with Primer going to the van on the turn There Leo D began to charge exeremely fast coming on the rail He was knocked back and Snider went around the field until the pair entered the stretch necks apart and fought it out head and head for the final eighth with Primer just lasting
