1939 DATES REQUESTED Applications of Chicago Tracks in Hands of Commission Sequence of Meetings Identical With WithThis This Year Washington Park ParkAsks Asks for Labor Day Following are the dates requested by the Chicago tracks next year the applications for which are now on file with the Illinois Racing Commission CommissionAurora Aurora May 1 May 30 26 Days I Saturdays Decoration Day DayLincoln Lincoln Fields May 22 June 24 30 Days 5 Saturdays Decoration Day DayArlington Arlington Park June 26 July 29 30 Days 5 Saturdays July 4 4Washington Washington Park August 1 Septber 4 30 Days 5 Saturdays Labor Day DayHawthorne Hawthorne September 4 October 7 30 Days 5 Saturdays Labor Day Sportsmans ParkOctober 2 October 31 26 Days 1 Saturdays SaturdaysThe The Illinois Racing Commission announced Tuesday through secretary George Foster that applications for 1939 racing days are in the hands of the commission The appli ¬ cations from six Chicago tracks were re ¬ ceived prior to November 1 the deadline set by the state law for tracks within 100 miles of each other and therefore competitors Fairmount Park because of lack of competi ¬ tion did not need to file so early earlyNO NO STARTLING CHANGES CHANGESThe The dates requested by the Chicago tracks follow the pattern of this years schedule in sequence of meeting Some of the tracks however ask for dates which overlap and Aurora and Sportsmans Park want more days than they were allotted this year yearLabor Labor Day is a bone of contention between Hawthorne and Washington Park Haw ¬ thorne had Labor Day this year and wants it again in 1939 Washington Park would like to close its meeting on that holiday opening on a Tuesday August 1 1The I The commission must act upon the dates between November 15 and December 1 ac ¬ cording to the law lawAurora Aurora which opens the season annually on or about May 1 had twentyfour days this year from Hay 2 to May 28 the period Continued on thirtieth page 1939 DATES REQUESTED Continued from first page including four Saturdays Next year it asks for twentysix days from May 1 to May 30 which also includes four Saturdays and Decoration Day DayLincoln Lincoln Fields requests May 22 to June 24 thirty days in which there are five Satur ¬ days and Decoration Day During the cur rent year the Crete course raced from May 30 to June 25 with four Saturdays and Dec ¬ oration Day DayArlington Arlington Park had thirty days from June 27 to July 30 five Saturdays and July 4 Next year the big north side track wants the same number of Saturdays and the Fourth from June 26 to July 29 almost identical dates with this years schedule scheduleWashington Washington Park according to its appli ¬ cation would like to open on Tuesday Au ¬ gust 1 next year and finish on Labor Day September 4 a thirtyday period which in ¬ cludes five Saturdays and the holiday holidayWANTS WANTS LABOR DAY DAYHawthorne Hawthorne would like to open again on Labor Day September 4 which it did this year and finish on October 7 thirty days which include the holiday and five Satur ¬ days This year it had five Saturdays and the same holiday holidaySportsmans Sportsmans Park asks for October 2 to October 31 in 1939 During the present year it raced from October 10 to October 31 with three Saturdays and enjoyed the best run of good weather of any of the Chicago tracks tracksAurora Aurora and Lincoln Fields each want Dec ¬ oration Day Washington Park and Haw ¬ thorne ask for Labor Day Auroras appli ¬ cation overlaps Lincoln Fields in the week from May 22 to the 27th and on the 29th and 30th of the following week weekLincoln Lincoln Fields final dates dovetail exactly with Arlingtons application the Crete course finishing on Saturday June 24 ac ¬ cording to its request and Arlington Park opening on Monday June 26 26There There is a oneday gap between the dates asked by Arlington and those requested by Washington Park Arlington requested July 29 as its closing date and Washington Park asks to be allowed to skip Monday July 31 and open on August 1 which is a Tuesday TuesdaySportsmans Sportsmans Park had only nineteen days this year and wants twentysix in 1939 This makes its date application clash with Haw ¬ thorne for one week from October 2 to October 7
