APPOINT E J BRENNAN FAIR GROUNDS MANAGER MANAGERNationally Nationally Known Official Will Also Be Director of Racing at New Orleans Track Next Winter WinterNEW NEW ORLEANS La May 15 Appoint ¬ ment of Edward J Brennan as director of racing and general manager by the Fair Grounds Corporation announcement of which was made late yesterday added tc the widespread interest in the campaign of Sylvester W Labrot Jr and his associates to restore racing at the Fair Grounds next winter as it was taken to bear out the corporations promise that only the highest type of management and direction is con ¬ templated templatedBrennans Brennans affiliations cover a wide range including Maryland tracks and Delaware Park ParkPrior Prior to the formation of the Fair Grounds Corporation Brennan was brought to New Orleans by Labrot for a conference dealing with the restoration of racing to New Or ¬ leans on a nonprofit basis and as a civic enterprise After hearing the plans outlined by Labrot the eastern racing authority heartily agreed with the plan and made a survey of the Fair Grounds plant It was after a careful check of the pic ¬ turesque and historical local course that Brennan ventured the opinion that the cost of duplication under present conditions would reach 1500000 which is virtually triple the purchase price of the plant plantVISION VISION HIGHCLASS RACING RACINGIn In discussing the appointment of the na ¬ tionally known figure Labrot said We are quite fortunate in obtaining the services of Mr Brennan who is held in high regard wherever racing is conducted in the United States and I believe that his association with the Fair Grounds will have a salutary influence on the caliber of racing that will be offered under the new deal dealWith With Mr Brennan in charge of racing plus the supervision of a competent racing commission which has been provided for by law and one of the most liberal racing statutes to be found anywhere in this coun ¬ try there is no reason for New Orleans failing to assume its rightful place as a winter racing center centerWe We are thoroughly convinced that the man selected by the racing commission to fill the post of supervisor of bookmaking will be the best available and that too will add prestige as well as gain and hold the confidence publicMeantime of the wagering public Meantime the drive to raise 750000 through the sale of four per cent debenture bonds is reported to be progressing steadily although no official reports of the team captains will be made until Friday
