WHITEfflLL STATES CHALLEDON WILL BE READY FOR GOLD CUP CUPTrainer Trainer Pleased With Progress Made by Brann Star Thus Far FarINGLEWOOD INGLEWOOD Calif June 16 If nothing happens to interrupt his present training program William L Branns Challedon will be ready for his engagement in the 75000 Hollywood Gold Cup on July 19 So said trainer L T Whitehill under whose direc ¬ tion the twotime handicap champion is prepping for his return to competition competitionThus Thus far according to Whitehill Challe ¬ don has accomplished every task set for him He has been brought around slowly and with great care and it is believed that now he will stand the rigors of liar 1 training Until now the horse has not been permitted to extend himself and if the time for his private trials has been on the slow side it has been because his connections have wished him to travel no faster fasterA A race horse is like a piece of glass Whitehill said They will stand a lot but still it doesnt take much to break them themSo So it is with Challedon he said Right now he is physically sound The hoof of his left foreleg has grown back nicely and with the removal of the bar plate it is be ¬ lieved the foot will be toughened and made as serviceable as ever everIn In all of his private trials thus far and even when he was just galloping Challe ¬ don has displayed a desire to increase his speed and now that he has progressed so satisfactorily the tempo of his training may be stepped up upJudging Judging from the horses present stage of fitness it is Whitehalls considered opin ¬ ion that Challedon will be ready for the im ¬ portant Cup engagement if of course no further mishap befalls him himChalledon Challedon worked a mile here Saturday morning The William L Brann star was sent a mile by trainer L T Whitehill and the horse just breezed the distance in 143 He was timed in 52s for the halfmile and 118 for threequarters Once more Challe ¬ don accomplished his trial in a manner greatly satisfactory to his conditioner
