Parks Proposes Series Of Steeplechase Races RacesNEW NEW YORK N Y May 1 To en ¬ courage steeplechases at longer distances Fred H Parks racing secretary for stee plechasing at J 3 New York tracks has proposed an interesting series of races for the regular meetings at Belmont Park and Aqueduct and the one to which the Sara ¬ toga Associations session is transferred The plan is to have a series of three spaced a week apart the first at two miles and a quarter the second at two miles and a half and the third at three miles They are to be handicaps open to fouryearolds and upward who have not won 2500 since April 15 1941 1941In In addition to the regular purses given by the associations there will be prizes for the owner and trainer of the horse scoring the greatest number of points in each series The owner will receive a trophy donated by the United Hunts Racing Asso ¬ ciation and the trainer will receive a cash award donated by each racing association Points in the series will be scored as fol ¬ lows twelve for finishing first six for second and three for third thirdSecretary Secretary Parks believes that the need for races at more than two miles is keenly felt by many owners and trainers now that hunt club racing has practically ceased because of war conditions The program outlined is designed to take care of this situation however he solicits suggestions suggestionsSteeplechase Steeplechase stakes for the Belmont Park meeting have closed unusually well The International Steeplechase has 37 nomina ¬ tions the Charles Appleton 39 the Corin ¬ thian Handicap 44 the Belmont Spring Maiden Steeplechase 23 and the Meadow Brook Handicap 39
