Oaks Is WeekEnd Feature at Downs DownsNellie Nellie L Nippy and Vaidina Marl Among Those Pointing For Filly Distance Offering OfferingLOUISVILLE LOUISVILLE Ky May 1 With the Kentucky Derby over the interest of horse ¬ men and fans will be directed toward next Saturdays running of the Kentucky Oaks a Churchill Downs fixture which like the Derby is having its 69th running this spring Fiftytwo threeyearold fillies have been nominated for the Oaks and some of the best are being groomed for the run of a mile and an eighth which carries 5000 in added money moneyAt At the moment Calumet Farm and the Vaidina Farm seem to have the strongest hands for next Saturdays stake though the owners and trainers of perhaps a half dozen other eligibles think they also have excellent chances of victory victoryThe The Calumet Farm hopes are Nippy and Nellie L while the Vaidina Farm will rely on Vaidina Marl MarlVaidina Vaidina Miss Works Creditable CreditableNippy Nippy and Nellie L already have been seen under colprs here this spring and have much to recommend them on their racing records while Vaidina Marl has not yet been to the post this spring and owes her popularity in connection with the Oaks to her excellent private trials trialsTwo Two Oaks fillies were seen this morning in private drills during the abbreviated training period T F Devereauxs Sweet Cakes and Hyman Friedbergs Bolo Way Sweet Cakes stepped a snappy five furlongs in 102 wJiile Bolo Way travelled a half mile handily in 48 A few of the others who are pointing for the Oaks are H P Headleys Now Mandy Max Marmorsteins Edie Jayne Joseph E Meyers Bold Style Penn Villa Farms I Loy Bridge W G Reynolds Miss Monarch and W CDavis Unhampered Two other highlights of next weeks racing are a pair of handicaps one to be offered on Wednesday and the other on Saturday Wednesdays feature will be a run of a mile and a sixteenth for three yearolds and upward and the Saturday handicap is a sevenfurlong sprint for horses in the same age brackets
