Whitney Resignation Accepted With Regrets RegretsFellow Fellow Commissioners Swope And Cole Commend His Work WorkNEW NEW YORK N Y June 3 Official action was taken today by the New York State Racing Commission of which Herbert Bayard Swope is chairman and Ashley T Cole a member on the recent resignation of Commissioner John Hay Whitney in the form of a resolution of regret adopted at a special meeting of the commission commissionCommissioner Commissioner Whitney who is now serv ¬ ing with the United States Army as a Lieu ¬ tenant Colonel and who is on duty outside the United States cabled his resignation as a racing commissioner to Governor Dewey because he felt his military duties made it impossible for him to continue to serve actively activelyWhitney Whitney had proposed filing his resigna ¬ tion as soon as he was commissioned in the military service more than a year ago but had been persuaded to defer it until it be ¬ came certain that his continuance abroad would require his full time and attention Due to his absence from the country the governor reluctantly was compelled to act on Colonel Whitneys request requestColonel Colonel Whitney has been a member of the racing commission since its creation in 1934 The commission adopted the follow ¬ ing resolution resolutionResolved Resolved that this commission receives with deep regret the notification today of the resignation of Lieutenant Colonel Whitney In his nine years of service as a racing commissioner Colonel Whitney has been at all times alert progressive enthu ¬ siastic and effective in the performance of his duties and at all times discharged them with a single eye to the improvement and betterment of New York racing As a member in the third generation of one of Americas leading racing families as well as a leading breeder and owner he possessed at his appointment as commissioner a rich knowledge of racing which has always been at the disposal of this commission and the racing sport sportIt It is with profound regret that we his fellow commissioners accept his resigna ¬ tion
