Thompson Astride Double7 Winners WinnersPilots Pilots Dockie and Darby Deirdre in First Second Races on Detroit Card CardDETROIT DETROIT Mich June 23 Billi Thompson starred in the first part of the afternoon at the Fair Grounds today when he piloted both ends of the Daily Double Brown Hotel Stables Dockie in the opener and Darby Dan Farms Darby Deirdre in the second race The popular combination form of wagering paid 6630 for 2 A gathering of 10000 was present presentThe The first offering brought out nine maiden threyearolds At the end of the six furlongs Dockie had six lengths to spare over Ima Pearl while completing the distance in 115 over a muddy track and rewarding at 41 Third position went to Aunt Lucy while the favorite Liselotte showed little floundered in the going and never bettered her position She raced in eighth position all the way wayDockie Dockie and Ima Pearl had the race practically to themselves Gaudete tried briefly to remain with the first two but it was too much and after about fivesix ¬ teenths of a mile he left the race to the winner and the runnerup The former had to withstand constant pressure from Ima Pearl until entering the stretch At that point the son of High Quest finally was able to draw away awayThompson Thompson guided Darby Deirdre to a frontrunning triumph to graduate from the maiden twoyearold ranks The daughter of Boswell Saluta had to be continually urged though to maintain her lead She flashed passed the judges a half length before the choice Cohall with Arielita third two lengths farther back Time for the distance was 104 and Darby Deirdre was responsible for a 14 payoff Apprentice Jack Favorite who last week was astride the winner of the Novice Jockey race duplicated that feat in the third number when he kept O F Wood ¬ wards Captain Ruth going to the finish to achieve a length and a quarter score Kiss Kiss who was closest after about three furlongs could not quite catch the winner but easily held the place seven lengths before Valdina Delia A winning ticket on the favorite was worth 490 and she negotiated the five furlongs in 103
