JACK HOWARD Sent out Coldstream Stables Nap to score her second straight success at the current Aqueduct meet Nap Closes Fast to Earn Nose Decision Over Westwood Belle Coldstream Miss Is Along In Final Stride of Merry Lark Purse at Aqueduct AqueductAQUEDUCT AQUEDUCT L L N Y June 23 The Merry Lark Purse feature of todays Aque ¬ duct program produced a thriller for the throng of 18961 devotees who came to the Queens County Jockey Club course despite what appeared an ordinary program Cold stream Stables Nap strongly ridden by Ferril Zufelt got up in the final stride to nose out Miss F G Millers Westwood Belle while Vera S Braggs Sanoj was only a head before King Ranchs White Paper the favorite Nap was a wellplayed second choice and paid 830 after being timed in 112 There were five horses within a length at the end of this six furlongs dash Modest One being only a head back of White Paper PaperHerb Herb Lindberg sent Sanoj to the front from her inside stall at the start of the Merry Lark and quickly opened up a day ¬ light lead over Westwood Belle who was closely pressed by White Paper while Nap was well back in the early stages stagesLindberg Lindberg Goes to Whip WhipSanoj Sanoj maintained her lead under some urging rounding the long curve for home while White Paper momentarily passed Westwood Belle and Nap began to move up coming to the top of the stretch Sanoj hugged the rail turning for home but was beginning to tire and Lindberg went to the whip Though the Bull Lea offspring hung on gamely she was unable to with ¬ stand the closing drives of Nap and West wood Belle and in another jump or two would probably have finished fifth fifthIt It was one of the tightest finishes of the season with Nap prevailing by the shortest of noses and the others well bunched be ¬ hind the daughter of Chance Sun It is possible that Sanoj was a little short for she had only one race this season and that was hardly more than a gallop which she won in time almost a second slower than this race
