• I Total of Sixty-Two Nominations Made For 00,000 Santa Anita Handicap s s to o Gay Dalton, Thumbs Up, * Busher and Okana Head Roster for June 30 Race ARCADIA, Calif., June 5. — Sixty-two nominations for the 00,000 Santa Anita Handicap, the worlds richest race, were announced here today by general manager Gwynn Wilson of the Los Angeles Turf Club. Inc. The fixture will be run for the eighth time on Saturday, June 30. Gay Dalton, champion of all Mexico, will line up against an array of established handicap stars in American thoroughbred racing. Name horses include Thumbs Up, recent winner of the San Pasqual; Slide Rule, Okana, Marriage, Brie a Bac, Bull Reigh, Jury Box, Broadcloth, Sirde, Paperboy, Pukka Gin, Stronghold and Son of Peace. Whirlabout, Happy Issue, Busher and Canina are the mares and fillies aspiring for the one and one-quarter miles contest. With the big handicap to be presented for the first time in the summer, 16 three-year-olds are among the eligibles. Besides the filly champion, Busher, Sir Bim, winner of the San Felipe Stakes; Checkerhall, Derby Mexicano victor; Sea Swallow, winner of the Caliente Derby, and Best Effort, Jay Paleys recent acquisition, are among some of the leaders.
