i Thirty Nominations For Equipoise Mile Equifox, Winner of First Running of Stake, to Seek 5,000 Feature on July 4 HOMEWOOD, 111., June 28. — Thirty nominations, among them Howard Wells Equifox. who won the first running of the stake in 1941, were announced today for the Equipoise Mile, the 5,000 added feature of the Independence Day program at Washington Park next Wednesday. Equifox, now eight years old and son of the great horse Equipoise for whom the July 4 stake is named, recently won the Churchill Downs Handicap at Louisville, but he is best known to Chicago racegoers for his 1941 triumph in the Equipoise Mile, his success In the Arlington Handicap the same year and his victory last summer in the 0,000 Washington Park Handicap. Pot o Luck Made Eligible No three-year-old has ever won the Equipoise Mile, but Calumet Farm may accomplish this feat with Pot o Luck, runner-up to Hoop Jr., in the Kentucky Derby several weeks ago. Pot o Luck is here principally to compete in the Classic and the American Derby, but may take part in the 5,000 race next week as part of his preparation for the more expensively endowed stakes. Calumet also nominated Ocean Wave, who Is hitting the comeback trail after having been on the sidelines since the spring of 1943, and the filly Miss Keeneland, herself a runner of some reputation. Miss Keeneland recently won the Top Flight Handicap at Belmont Park. Two stables nominated as many as three horses for the Equipoise. Calumet Farm was one and the other was the Helis Stock Farm, which has entered Rounders, who will be remembered by Chicagoans as winner of the 1942 Arlington Handicap, Salto and Tropea. The Millbrook Stable made two eligible. Alex Barth, winner of nearly 00,000 last year, and Swimmin Hole.
