LEWIS L BREDIN Michigan state rac ¬ ing commissioner Two Stipulations Made For New Detroit Track TrackCommissioner Commissioner Bredin Issues Statement on Proposed Course CourseDETROIT DETROIT Mich May 29 John M Mc ¬ Donald of Swampscbtt Mass who heads a group who he said is prepared to spend up to 7000000 for the erection of a new race track in the Detroit area mjffle two stipula ¬ tions at a dinner given to press members last evening He said that the group was prepared to spend 400000 within the next 90 days to complete overall plans but would not proceed further unless the State Fair Grounds present site of racirighere be not permitted to operate as a rival and that the legislature does not change the racing law to prevent the promoters Worn1 getting back their risk capital capitalLewis Lewis L Bredin Michigans racing com ¬ missioner issued the following statement in connection with the proposed hew track in the Detroit area The track will be licensed and able to proceed at any time intfhatever racing season it appears they will be ready de ¬ pendent upon progress inerection of the plant It must be made definite that racing will be discontinued for all time at its present site on the Fair Grounds It is hoped that racing operations wifi be started during the summer of 1949 as it is extremely important to the state administration that the Fair Grounds be vacated at the earliest possible moment Every assistance will be given this group so that the question of racing at the Fair Grounds will hot even have to come up for consideration considerationIn In reply to a question Bredin added that other applicants are not barred from con ¬ sideration The Michigan statute permits more than one track Bredin said I do not believe that the construction of more than one track should be encouraged at this time If there are other groups interested in such a development I would strongly recommend that the various interests be merged into one as this would assure us of the widest coverage of breeding racing jind financial interests interestsHenry Henry H Knight representing a powerful group of Kentuckians and Detroiters is ex ¬ pected in Detroit on Wednesday to present the plans of his group to Commissioner Bredin
