-M. CARTER HANDICAP ENTRIES. With such excellent entries as have been made to the Carter Handicap, the first big race to be run before a New York racing public in 1903, there ought, and no doubt will, be a contest worth going many miles to see. It is really a matter of surprise and gratification to the friends of the Aqueduct track to note the character and good class of owners and horses engaged for that race, which, by the way, will be worth more than ,000 to the winner a sum not to be sneered at, when race horse provender is higher than ever before. The Washington meeting will whet the appetites of New Yorkers, and with such possible starters as Hermis, Himself, Ethics last years winner, Yellow Tail, Articulate, Potente, Duke of Kendal, Slave, Old England, Sombrero, Lord Badge, Syrlin, Bon Mot, Demurrer and the pick of J. W. Schorrs stable, as well-as those of the Messrs. Keene, ,the stake ought to afford a great race. Her- . mis, will of course, be top weight. The weights are due on March 5.
