Embarrassment opened a winning gap in the run down the backstretch and was under restraint at the end. Bondage made up ground and ran a good race, but was driving to the limit at the end to stall oft! War Cry. The latter began slowly and made up a lot of ground, but tired when called on. She began slowly, but closed a big gap and romped home under restraint. Manshak outbroke his Held and showed high speed, but quit Avhen strongly challenged. McGonigle hung on gamely under a drive. Birch Broom ran in behind the leaders until on the turn for home, where she moved up and took command when called on and came away without urging in the stretch run. Miriam W. always held Josette safe and dutgamed her when it came to a drive. The latter lacked her usual speed and did not run her best race. Fading Light ran fairly well. The others were outclassed. Maltster was at home in the going and showed the most early speed, but was under a hard drive at the end to stall off Lofter and won because Helgesen outrode Phillips. Lofter began slowly and closed a big gap, but was tiring when called on. Lord Neville was crowded into the deep going while rounding the far turn, came wide into the homestretch and finished going fast. Kiwasa was in the deep going all the way. Kaloma tired in the last furlong. Maltster was run up to ,000 and bought by Daniels and Co. J. J. McCafferty claimed Lofter for 25. Overweights Miss Zara, 2 pounds. " Maltster, show, 2 to 5. Henry of Trastamare closed a big gap, but tired after he got to the leaders. The others were outfooted all the way. The latter moved up fast at the turn into the homestretch, but weakened when it came to a hard drive. Honolulu was under a hard drive all of the last furlong. It was a three-horse race all the way.
