Beneficent kept the winner close company until in the last furlong, where he tired, but was easily the best of the others. Major T. J. Carson got away in a tangle, closed a big gap and made a fast move in the stretch run, but tired slightly at the end. Langford James ran a good race, although much favored by racing luck and bears watching. Oudon was cut off near the half-mile ground and could never recover. Kern displayed early speed. Jigger ran in a good position throughout, came with a rush in the stretch and won going away. Pyrrho ran a good race and appears to have regained his good form. He forced a fast pace and easily went into the lead, but was unprepared for the winners determined rush. Frank Mc, away well in motion, had things his own way in the early stages, but tired when called on strongly. Drummond had no mishaps. Free Admission made up a big gap and but for interference would have been closer up. Jim Winn ran in improved form and finished resolutely. Boaster and The Boer ran dull races, although suffering from interference at the start. Corrected weights Pyrrho, 96. Overweights Free Admission, 4 pounds; Gallagher, 2. Jigger, show, 8 to 5. Start good. Won in a canter; second easily. Theory was easily the best and was only cantering at the end. She was in close attendance on Balzac to the seventh obstacle, where she assumed command, but Peters again took her back and in doing so impeded Balzac and nearly threw him over the fence. Brazil claimed foul, which was promptly allowed Balzac fenced cleanly, displayed much speed and seemingly tired after negotiating seven obstacles, but was easily best of those in back of Theory. Volantine made up a lot of ground from a bad beginning. Faraday Jr. was never a serious contender. Tom Curl fell at the seventh jump and was a keen contender at the time. Entry, show, out. Sjambok ran an excellent race, assumed command when called on and won as if she outclassed her company. Belltoone ran in improved form and put up a good performance, standing a long stretch drive with gameness. Eccentric, away well in motion, ran a fast middle quarter, but tired when the real racing began. Idle held a forward position throughout and will do better.
