Optimo, away well and on the outside, enjoyed clear sailing and ran within striking distance to the stretch, where he wore the leaders down, getting up in the last stride under Burns vigorous finish. Nonie, practically left, forced the pace throughout and stood a long stretch drive gamely and was caught napping at the end. Cardwellton, on the inside and lucky throughout, tired in the stretch run. Emily Oliver, shuffled back at the start, closed a big gap in the last half and ran a cracking good race. Hungarian got away poorly and made up a lot of ground. Wistaria finished fast after a rough journey. Scratched 37261 Prestano, 105. Corrected weights Cardwellton, 109. Overweights Hungarian, 3 pounds. Optimo, show, evens. Nonie, show, evens. The Mighty got away running and forced the pace throughout, coming away in decisive fashion in the final sixteenth and outclassed the field. Telephone, the only serious contender, ran lapped on the winner for five and a half furlongs before he succumbed, swerving all over the course thereafter, but ran in much improved form and will make good. Standard held a forward position from the start and in a tight fit just got homo from Anirad. The latter, suddenly improved, ran both fast and gamely. Flea got away poorly. Hoceo, strictly a mudlark, got away flatfooted and fell immediately and hopelessly out of the running. Scratched 13230 Ethel Abbott, 97; 43294 The Cure, 100. Overweights Play Ball, 3 pounds. Fort Wayne, away in his stride, held a small lead from the start, getting home in a hard drive and showing unexpected gameness. Matt Hogan, always in close attendance, was wearing the winner down at the end and was probably best. Louis Wagner, away none too well and interfered with on the turn, came along fast at the end on the inside. Aunt Polly evidently finds this track tiring, as she fails to sustain her speed with her accustomed gameness. Quiet, away badly, closed a big gap to the stretch, where she fell away. Winner B. g, by Racine Pottery trained by J. Weber. Went to post at 3:21. At post 1 minute. Start good. Won driving; second the same. Position suddenly found his speed, got away last and quickly ran up into a contending position, then he indulged the leaders to the stretch where he ran past them as if they were anchored. G. W. Trahern followed the winner closely in the stretch run and was a fast going second. Burdock is genuinely improved and held on well after having disposed of such a fast horse as El Chihuahua. Past Master was a prominent contender throughout. I. O. U., nearly left, closed a tremendous gap and is an unlucky horse that requires a vigorous rider, lllowaho was badly ridden throughout, repeatedly interfered with and is a rank in and outer. Merwan steadily improved his position from a poor start. Expedient must have a long journey and a vigorous jockey. El Chihuahua showed early speed but quit badly. - Overweights G. W. Winner Br. f, by Orvieto Coalesce trained by D; Cameron. Went to post at 3:47. At post 1 minute. Start straggling. Won easily; second driving. Mildred Schultz, a vastly improved filly, indulged the early pacemaker to the stretch, where she came along with a rare burst of speed and won away off, was much the best and can beat good ones. Pierce J. got away flatfooted and ran in close quarters during the early running, moved up fast on the far turn and in the stretch run put up a game fight under Burns vigorous handling. Constellator broke slowly, but quickly ran up within hailing distance, and being reserved to the stretch, closed up fast and was interfered with and unlucky to lose second place. Jane Holly, also unfortunate at the start, thereafter had a rough journey and tired right at the -end. Silent Water forced a fast pace for more than six furlongs and ran a surprisingly good race. Emshee failed to stay after showing good speed for half the journey. Mac Gyle was closing up fast at the end. Won handily; second easily Jockey Club got away poorly but took the lead on the first turn, made his own running throughout and finished with something in reserve. Forest King singled himself out of the field in the stretch run finishing with a rush, but could never get up. Stilicho fell away after running forwardly and well in hand for six furlongs but easily held his own for third place at the end. Lacy Crawford made up considerable ground in the last half on his own courage. Cougar was closing up with a rush in the final .sixteenth and favors a longer race. Meehanus held on close in behind a fast pace for six furlongs before he retired. Jockey Club, show, 1 to 4. Forest King, show, 1 to 3. Stilicho, show, 4 to 5.
