LADY SAVOY DEFEATS JOHN L. INGLIS Lexington Owners Win Five Races — Mc-Daniel Has Confidence in Zal for Derby. Lexington. Ky . May ".William Cecal was not able to take the measure of John L. Inglis with Zal the last time W. H. Fixer sent .his handicap bona out. but the Nashville brewer started Lady Savoy against the sou of Gigantcum la the feature race today and she squared accounts for her staolc mate, though she has yet to take the measure of Morales to make it up sticks between the two Tcnnesseeans. Lady Savoy and John L. Inglis met in the condition affair for three J ear olds and upward at a mile, the mare winning by a Bose after a des-perate drive through the final quarter. John L. Inglis" victory over Zal had earned for him many admirers and it was lielicvcd that he outclassed the Gerst mare. The colt might have won had Minder not. in his ovcrconfidence. delayed his run. John L. Inglis was going fastest of the two at the end and. had Minder begun riding earlier, as hard as the struggle was. it is almost a certainty that Unorder of the finish would have been reversed. The afternoon was warm and pleasant and a large crowd turned out. The track had dried out over night and the going was fast. Local owners were again in evidence. They furnished tive of the si winners. Horses which have wintered at the Lexington track are all in forward condition and they are certain to be heard from at Louisville. Clay Brothers Ilardshot. which was passed around on the opening day as a certainty, made good today by winning the second race. His victory was hard earned and it was only in the last fi w strides that he got up to beat Marmorean a head after standing a drive from the head of the stretch to the finish. Ilardshot is a big, gross horse and will improve with racing. Milton Youngs Honest made a show of the others in the third raee. Ibis colt is a good looker and displayed rare speed. He opened up a big lead in the run to the stretch turn and was under restraint all of the last furlong. T. W. Morris High Binder was excused from this race. The colt developed a slipht fever over night. Orlandwiek. a Kentucky Derby candidate, was worked a mile and a quarter this morning in 2:12. The fractional time was 24. 4! . 1:141, l:42f. J. Lee. who will have the mount on the col; on Mom day, rode and he carried about 118 pounds Will McDaniel has not lost confidence in Zal. despite his two defeats here. Zal is troubled with a ringbone and will not run down the hill here. In both his races he showed much speed until at the head of the stretch, but propped both times in the final quarter. McDaniel claims that he will run at top speed all the way over the level course at Churchill Downs. A good program is offered for tomorrow and with such fast horses as Merry Blue, Bucket Brigade, Cheswardine; Ooldproof. Royal Breeze. Morales; Ancient. Black Mar.-.. Ma May; Mortfnoy, Fleming. King Leopold: Field Lark. Caroline W.. Rossessa : Carew. Beatrice K. and Larly Boy among those on tered in the various races a continuance of the good racing that has marked the meeting is to be expected. T. K. Lynch.
