GALLOPING WELL AT OAKLAND. Oakland, Cal., October 28. If the program which trainer Howell has mapped out for the AAilliams stable is adhered to, Firestone will not be seen in a race at Oakland this winter. Firestones ankles have been blistered for soreness, and the Royal Flush III. colt will spend tho winter at Brentwood Stock Farm and be saved for his eastern engagements, unless President AYilliams should decide to veto his trainers plans during the course of the winter. Another horse in the stable which will not race at tho meeting is Corn Blossom. The Abercorn horse lias been turned out for.; the winter. W. AY. Finn will only race five horses here this winter. Iteno Itebel lias gone wrong in one of his knees and both ankles, and has been fired. Dr. Soule, which Finn bought from Barnev Schreiber at the Butte meeting, is doing finely in his work, and his owner thinks he will he his best horse this- winter. It. II. Harris has sent his Jean Bercaud hay filly. Lotto- Gladstone, to E. J. Itamseys farm, where she will be bred, later in the winter, to Salvado. The work-outs on the track have been on the order of slow gallops for the last few days, but some of those today are worthy of note. Dr. Rowell made a race of a work-out when he sent Escamado. Mis-tress of Itolls and Sir Russell away together this morning for six furlougs. Kseamado finished in front in 1:101. with the other two close up. Ramus was sent a mile in 1:47, and Janeta, which is AV. A. Cottons candidate for the Opening Handicap, went the distance in 1:48. Cigarlighter was timed a half iu 331. AY. C. Glasson. who booked here two years ago, is seriously thinking of again joining tlie ranks of the layers.
