NOTES OF THE TURF. 1 It is said the proposed race meeting at Tampa, Florida, will open February 5, and run until February 25. Frank E. Gardner was the last New York, turfman to ship his liorses home from Washington. He says that there are more liorses wintering at the Washington track than ever before. Jockey Willie Gannon, who has been riding in Russia the past year as the regular rider for the Imperial stable, has returned to this country for the winter. He will return to Russia next March. It is said that James R. Keene will give jockey Nottcr 5 for every winner lie rides and 0 every time he finishes second witli a horse from the Keene stable, besides the 0,000 retainer and ,five per cent, of the earnings of the horses he rides.
