January 23. — The case of William Davis, the Imukiuakcr who was convicted in a test case for violating the District Code in November, 1900, and sentenced to two hours in jail, which was taken to the Court of Appeals, will be heard early in February by agreement of counsel. [ It is understood to be the intention of District Attorney Baker, if this case is decided adversely lo him, to secure the indictment of one of the perambulating bookmaker* at the fall meeting at Ben-ning last November and secure a trial of the case before the opening of the spring meeting at that track. If he is entirely successful in this course lie will probably take steps to stop betting at the race track during the coming meeting.
