NEW ORLEANS MERRYGOROUNDS CLOSE New Orleans La July 21 Both the local half mile tracks have suspended operations for an in ¬ definite period The fact that the Locke antibetting bill went Into effect was responsible At one oclock yester ¬ day afternoon after a long session of the horse owners and operators of the tracks Peter Laroux president of the Louisiana Racing and Driving Club announced that his clubs track would close but probably would reopen in two months under the New York system of betting In this way the race track men expect to circumvent the Locke bill billNo No definite plans have yet been made by the owners of the two big racing plants here but it is probable that it will be arranged to hold short meetings at both tracks during the coining winter and the law may l e given a test testPolice Police Inspector OConnor lias issued positive orders that there shall be no betting of any kind on horse races lie has instructed his force to arrest all men operating handbooks and other de ¬ vices for betting
